Protostomes are lower invertebrate species in which the mouth develops before the anus during embryo development. These creatures have spiral and determinate cleavage, and their coelom forms as the mesoderm divides. 

  • Proteomes have a solid neural system with a ventral nerve cord. 
  • They have a less advanced and complicated body composition and have multi-ciliated cells. 
  • The gut is tunnelled into the embryo in protostomes, resulting in the formation of the anus. 
  • Protostomes have distinct cleavage. 

The blastomeres created in the early stages of embryo development do not have the capacity to develop into independent embryos, which is known as determining cleavage. 

  • Protostomes do not form archenterons.

Deuterostomes are animals with radial cleavage in their embryonic development. In other words, during the creation of the blastula via cleavage of the fertilized egg embryo, the cell division planes occur radially.

  • In deuterostomes, the organism's anus is produced initially by the blastopore.
  • The mouth is generated secondarily on the other side.
  • The blastopore develops into an anal opening and the coelom is formed by the longitudinal pouches of the archenteron in deuterostomes.

Deuterostomes are mono-ciliated and echinoderms, hemichordates, and chordates. The radial cleavage occurs in deuterostomes.

  • The blastomeres of upper layers are exactly above those of lower levels in radial cleavage.

Urochordata
