MBBS in UK for Indian students is a five to six year integrated undergraduate medical degree awarded as MBBS, MB ChB, MB BS or MB BChir by 34 GMC-recognized medical schools. For a taught version an Indian student can enrol in for 2027 entry, University College London, Imperial College London and King's College London lead. If you are reading this after the NEET UG 2026 result declared on 16 June, the UCAS deadline of 15 October 2026 is the next hard stop.

The NEET UG 2026 result declared on 16 June 2026 is valid for three years for GMC-track applicants returning to India, though UK universities do not use NEET marks in admission decisions. The UCAS deadline for 2027 medicine entry is 15 October 2026, and the UCAT test window closes on 26 September 2026; therefore, bookings need to be locked in well before the personal statement window closes. Anyone hoping to secure a 2-year Graduate Route visa after graduation must plan a UK arrival that lets them file the application on or before 31 December 2026; from 1 January 2027 the route drops to 18 months for medical graduates. Indian students who missed a government MBBS seat this year but cleared the NEET qualifying percentile can start a 2027-entry UCAS application immediately.

Source: QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026: Medicine, and each university's official 2026-27 international fee schedule. Fees are shown as the Year 1 international rate; clinical years typically cost 25 to 45 percent more at schools that split the fee, and Manchester's clinical uplift is one of the largest.
Watch Out: Oxford and Cambridge look mid-priced on tuition alone but each add a compulsory college fee of GBP 11,500 to 15,000 (INR 14.97 to 19.53 Lakhs) per year on top, which lifts their real six-year total to GBP 490,000+ (INR 6.38 Crore+). For the 2026-27 cycle, both universities have confirmed their fees and will publish 2027-28 rates between August and October 2026, so budget against the 2026-27 baseline plus 4 to 6 percent for the next academic year.

UK medical schools cluster into four routes that suit different applicant profiles. Reading the table below with your Class 12 score, UCAT band and post-degree plan tells you which two or three schools to prioritize on the UCAS form.
| Applicant Profile | Best-Fit Schools | Why It Fits |
|---|---|---|
| Class 12 above 95 percent, UCAT above 2,900, PhD-track ambition | Oxford, Cambridge | Research-heavy pre-clinical years, mandatory intercalated BA, strongest global academic reputation. High college fee is the trade-off. |
| Strong academics, wants deep London hospital exposure | UCL, Imperial, KCL | Six central London teaching hospitals feed clinical years. UCL and KCL start ward exposure from Year 1. Higher living cost but strongest employer network. |
| Wants Scotland's 6-year MB ChB and lower urban cost | Edinburgh, Glasgow | Historic Scottish medical curriculum, smaller cohort sizes, Edinburgh runs a mandatory year-abroad option. Fees are Scotland's highest but living cost is 20 to 30 percent below London. |
| Wants regional value and split-fee pricing | Manchester, Newcastle, Queen Mary | Pre-clinical years priced 25 to 40 percent below London flat-fee schools. Queen Mary's Barts campus gives London exposure at a lower tuition. Fits families budgeting under INR 4 Crore total. |
Note: UCAS allows only 4 medicine choices out of 5 total. A safe 2027-entry shortlist mixes one Oxbridge, two London teaching hospitals and one regional school, so an interview offer at at least one school is realistic even if the aspirational two miss.
The UCAS medicine application deadline for 2027 entry is 15 October 2026 at 18:00 UK time. Medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses are the only UCAS subjects on this early cycle; every other undergraduate program uses the 31 January 2027 deadline. Late medicine applications are not considered, so the October date is a hard stop.
| Milestone | Date (2026-27 Cycle) | What Indian Applicants Should Do |
|---|---|---|
| UCAS registration opens | May 2026 | Create UCAS Hub account, link to school buzzword or apply as an individual. |
| UCAT booking window | Until 26 September 2026 | Book at British Council Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Chennai. Slots fill by August. |
| UCAT test window | 7 July to 30 September 2026 | Sit as early as August; scores are released instantly, letting you tune university choices. |
| UCAS submission deadline | 15 October 2026 | Personal statement, 4 medicine choices, teacher reference and UCAT score all uploaded. |
| Interview invitations | November 2026 to February 2027 | Oxbridge interviews December 2026; MMI-style panels at UCL, KCL, Imperial January to February 2027. |
| Offer decisions | By 14 May 2027 | UCAS shows conditional or unconditional offers; firm and insurance choices due by early June. |
| Student visa opens | From July 2027 (6 months before course start) | File Priority Visa within 3 weeks of results for a September start. |
Deadline Alert: Post NEET UG 2026 result, the UCAT booking window is live at British Council India and early-August slots fill first. Sitting UCAT in the first half of August gives you six clear weeks before the UCAS deadline to redraft your personal statement against your actual score. Applicants who wait for late September dates routinely miss the personal-statement rewrite window.
MBBS in UK fees for Indian students in the 2026-27 international cohort sit between GBP 39,900 (INR 51.96 Lakhs) and GBP 70,554 (INR 91.87 Lakhs) per year. The six-year total, including Oxbridge college fees, spans GBP 240,000 to GBP 490,000 (INR 3.13 Crore to 6.38 Crore) in tuition alone.
| University | Pre-Clinical Fee | Clinical Fee | Full-Course Tuition Estimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cambridge | GBP 70,554 (INR 91.87 Lakhs) flat | GBP 423,000 (INR 5.51 Crore) + college fee | |
| Oxford | GBP 46,240 (INR 60.20 Lakhs) flat | GBP 277,000 (INR 3.61 Crore) + college fee | |
| UCL | GBP 57,300 (INR 74.60 Lakhs) flat | GBP 343,000 (INR 4.47 Crore) | |
| Imperial | GBP 53,700 (INR 69.92 Lakhs) flat | GBP 322,000 (INR 4.19 Crore) | |
| King's College London | GBP 61,000 (INR 79.42 Lakhs) flat | GBP 305,000 (INR 3.97 Crore) | |
| Edinburgh | GBP 54,650 (INR 71.16 Lakhs) flat | GBP 328,000 (INR 4.27 Crore) | |
| Manchester | GBP 39,900 (INR 51.96 Lakhs) | GBP 60,900 (INR 79.29 Lakhs) | GBP 262,500 (INR 3.42 Crore) |
| Glasgow | GBP 62,730 (INR 81.68 Lakhs) flat | GBP 313,650 (INR 4.08 Crore) | |
| Queen Mary | GBP 48,700 (INR 63.42 Lakhs) flat | GBP 243,500 (INR 3.17 Crore) | |
| Newcastle | GBP 45,000 (INR 58.59 Lakhs) flat | GBP 225,000 (INR 2.93 Crore) | |
Source: 2026-27 international fee schedules published by each university's registry. Currency conversion at GBP-INR 130.20 as of 16 July 2026 (BookMyForex). Cambridge and Oxford college fees of GBP 11,500 to 15,000 (INR 14.97 to 19.53 Lakhs) per year apply on top.
Money Saver: A pre-clinical / clinical split at Manchester saves GBP 42,000 (INR 54.68 Lakhs) over the first two years versus a flat-fee London school, but the Year 3 clinical uplift narrows the gap. Manchester ends the five-year course at GBP 262,500 (INR 3.42 Crore), still about 30 percent cheaper than London flat-fee schools. Newcastle and Queen Mary sit at the same value end.
UK universities publish their 2027-28 international fees between August and October 2026, so a July-2026 planner should expect a 4 to 8 percent uplift on the numbers above for a September-2027 start.
Cost of living covers everything outside tuition: rent, food, transport, utilities, mobile and internet, and one-off setup costs. Budget GBP 12,000 to 18,000 (INR 15.62 to 23.44 Lakhs) per year, driven mostly by city and accommodation type. UK Student Visa rules require Indian applicants to hold this amount as maintenance funds in a seasoned account before applying.
| City | Annual Cost of Living | What Drives the Choice |
|---|---|---|
| London (UCL, Imperial, KCL, Queen Mary) | GBP 15,000 to 18,000 (INR 19.53 to 23.44 Lakhs) | Deepest teaching-hospital network, strongest employer pipeline, densest Indian community. Trade-off is 30 to 40 percent higher rent than every other city. |
| Edinburgh, Glasgow | GBP 11,500 to 13,500 (INR 14.97 to 17.58 Lakhs) | Historic medical tradition, walkable campuses, cheaper rent, tight Indian cohort. Lower Big-Four hiring density in Scotland after graduation. |
| Manchester, Newcastle | GBP 10,500 to 12,500 (INR 13.67 to 16.28 Lakhs) | Best cost-per-clinical-year in Group 1 regional cities, growing biotech hiring, one hour to Liverpool and Leeds. Trade-off is thinner central-London placement access. |
| Oxford, Cambridge | GBP 13,500 to 16,000 (INR 17.58 to 20.83 Lakhs) | Collegiate rent is bundled with meals in some colleges but stays high. Prestige and alumni network offset the number. |
Accommodation is the largest single line and swings sharply by type:
The recurring monthly running costs split by city as follows:
| Monthly Cost | London | Manchester or Newcastle |
|---|---|---|
| Transport (student travelcard) | GBP 79 to 105 (INR 10,285 to 13,671) | GBP 45 to 65 (INR 5,859 to 8,463) |
| Food and groceries (cooking at home) | GBP 180 to 240 (INR 23,436 to 31,248) | GBP 150 to 200 (INR 19,530 to 26,040) |
| Utilities, mobile and internet | GBP 90 to 130 (INR 11,718 to 16,926) | GBP 75 to 110 (INR 9,765 to 14,322) |
One-off setup: a deposit of 5 to 6 weeks' rent, initial furnishing and kitchen kit of GBP 500 to 900 (INR 65,100 to 1.17 Lakhs), plus the Immigration Health Surcharge of GBP 776 (INR 1.01 Lakhs) per year paid up front for the full visa length.
Note: For the 2026-27 cycle, the UK Student Visa maintenance requirement is GBP 1,483 per month (INR 1.93 Lakhs) for London and GBP 1,136 per month (INR 1.48 Lakhs) outside London, held in a seasoned account for 28 consecutive days before the visa application. Fund seasoning must start immediately after the NEET UG 2026 result for a September 2027 intake, otherwise the visa evidence window closes before UCAS confirmation.
MBBS in UK eligibility for Indian students in 2026-27 rests on four pillars: Class 12 PCB above 90 percent, UCAT above 2,700 for international offers, IELTS 7.0 to 7.5, and a personal statement plus interview. BMAT is no longer accepted anywhere; the test was withdrawn after its final sitting in October 2023.
Watch Out: For the 2026-27 admission cycle, only the UCAT is accepted at every UK medical school. Coaching centres in India still sell BMAT prep material for MBBS in UK, which is outdated. Skip any consultancy that lists BMAT in a 2026-27 checklist.
UK undergraduate medicine sits outside the reach of the two largest India-facing UK scholarships. Chevening funds only taught master's degrees, and Commonwealth Scholarships do not cover undergraduate MBBS. What is left is a mix of university-specific bursaries, Indian trust scholarships and private awards; realistic aid for an MBBS applicant lands at GBP 3,000 to 15,000 (INR 3.91 to 19.53 Lakhs) per year, not full tuition.
| Scholarship | Eligibility | Award Value |
|---|---|---|
| Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarship | Indian citizens, under 30, unconditional offer from an approved UK university | Up to USD 100,000 (INR 96.43 Lakhs) total |
| JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship | Indian citizens, first-class degree, income-linked | INR 10 Lakhs loan plus INR 7.5 Lakhs gift component |
| Aga Khan Foundation Scholarship | Merit-based, financial need, Indian citizens | 50 percent grant + 50 percent loan of full study cost |
| Rhodes Scholarship (Oxford only) | Age under 25, first-class equivalent, Oxford admission secured | Full tuition + college fee + stipend + airfare |
| KCL International Undergraduate Scholarship | KCL international offer holder, merit-based | GBP 6,000 (INR 7.81 Lakhs) per year |
| UCL Global Undergraduate Scholarship | UCL undergraduate offer, income under GBP 42,875 | GBP 15,000 (INR 19.53 Lakhs) per year |
Watch Out: Chevening is closed for MBBS in UK because the scheme funds taught master's programs only; any agent claiming Chevening funds undergraduate medicine is wrong. Chevening does apply to a UK medical postgraduate or MSc after Indian MBBS. For the 2027-28 taught cycle, Chevening applications open in early August 2026 and close in early November 2026.

The UK Graduate Route lets an MBBS graduate stay and work in the UK without a sponsor after finishing the degree. The route grants 2 years for medical graduates who apply on or before 31 December 2026, but drops to 18 months from 1 January 2027 onwards under rules published earlier this year. For a 2027-entry MBBS applicant graduating in 2032, the 18-month window applies.
Pro Tip: Foundation Programme applications open in early November of the final year of MBBS. A 2032 graduate starts the FY1 hunt in November 2031, which is why the Graduate Route's 18-month window is enough to secure the FY1 offer and switch to a Skilled Worker visa before the Graduate Route expires.

Every GMC-recognized UK medical school on the list above is NMC-recognized for the purpose of practising in India, and its graduates are currently exempt from the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). The exemption stands under NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations 2021 for graduates of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. NExT, once notified, will replace FMGE for all foreign graduates.
Note: The FMGE exemption for UK MBBS graduates is the single biggest advantage over Central Asian and Eastern European medical degrees. Kyrgyzstan and Russia deliver a UK-equivalent NMC registration only after clearing FMGE (country pass rates of 15 to 30 percent), while a UK graduate skips the exam entirely and goes straight to the internship stage.
Ques. Can Indian students study MBBS in UK directly after Class 12?
Ans. Yes, Indian students can apply for MBBS in UK directly after Class 12 through UCAS. The academic bar is 90 to 95 percent aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, plus IELTS 7.0 to 7.5 and a UCAT score of 2,700 or above. No prior undergraduate degree is needed. The UCAS deadline for medicine 2027 entry is 15 October 2026. NEET UG 2026 is not used by UK universities but is still required by the NMC for anyone planning to practise in India later.
Ques. Is MBBS in UK recognized by NMC in India?
Ans. Yes. Every UK medical school with GMC recognition is on the NMC-recognized list under the FMGL Regulations 2021. UK MBBS graduates are also exempt from FMGE, which is currently the biggest single advantage over most other MBBS abroad destinations. The pathway to registration after returning to India is NMC verification, then State Medical Council registration, then a compulsory 12-month rotatory internship (CRMI), then permanent registration.
Ques. What is the total cost of MBBS in UK for Indian students?
Ans. Total tuition for a 5-year MBBS in UK ranges from GBP 225,000 (INR 2.93 Crore) at Newcastle to GBP 423,000 (INR 5.51 Crore) at Cambridge. Oxford and Cambridge add college fees of GBP 11,500 to 15,000 per year on top. Living costs add GBP 60,000 to 90,000 (INR 78 Lakhs to 1.17 Crore) over the course. All-in, an Indian student should plan for INR 3.5 to 6.5 Crore across tuition and living for the full degree.
Ques. Do UK universities accept NEET for MBBS admission?
Ans. No, UK universities do not use NEET marks in admission decisions. Admission runs on UCAT, Class 12 marks, IELTS, personal statement and interview. NEET is still relevant because the NMC requires a Qualified NEET scorecard from the applicant's year of Class 12 (validity 3 years) for eventual registration in India after the UK degree. A student who never took NEET is permanently barred from Indian medical practice, whatever the UK degree.
Ques. Is BMAT still required for MBBS in UK admission?
Ans. No. BMAT was discontinued after the October 2023 sitting and is no longer accepted by any UK medical school. UCAT is now the only aptitude test for MBBS in UK. Coaching centres that still sell BMAT prep for a 2026-27 application are working from outdated material. Applicants should book UCAT in the 7 July to 30 September 2026 window through Pearson VUE at a British Council India centre.
Ques. Which is the cheapest UK medical school for Indian students in 2026?
Ans. Among the top 10 QS-ranked schools, Newcastle University at GBP 45,000 (INR 58.59 Lakhs) per year is the cheapest flat-fee option, followed by Queen Mary University of London at GBP 48,700 (INR 63.42 Lakhs). Manchester's split fee saves further money in Years 1 and 2 at GBP 39,900 (INR 51.96 Lakhs), though the clinical uplift to GBP 60,900 (INR 79.29 Lakhs) in Years 3 to 5 balances the total. Full 5-year Newcastle tuition lands at GBP 225,000 (INR 2.93 Crore), the lowest across the top 10.
Ques. How long is the post-study work visa after MBBS in UK?
Ans. The Graduate Route grants 2 years of post-study stay for applications filed on or before 31 December 2026. From 1 January 2027, the Graduate Route drops to 18 months for medical graduates. A 2027-entry MBBS applicant graduating in 2032 falls under the 18-month regime. Foundation Programme placements start in August of the graduation year, so the 18-month window is enough to secure an FY1 role and switch to the Skilled Worker Visa sponsored by the NHS.
Ques. Does Chevening or Commonwealth Scholarship fund MBBS in UK?
Ans. No. Chevening funds only one-year taught master's programs, not undergraduate medicine. Commonwealth Scholarships also cover postgraduate study, not undergraduate MBBS. Realistic aid for MBBS in UK for Indian students comes from Inlaks Shivdasani, JN Tata Endowment, Aga Khan Foundation and university-specific bursaries at UCL and KCL. Award values range from GBP 3,000 to 15,000 (INR 3.91 to 19.53 Lakhs) per year, not full tuition.
