Kubla Khan Summary

Kubla Khan is a 54 line poem that includes three stanzas without any definite patterns. The setting of the poem is a dreamlike state with a unique connection to nature. 

• Coleridge begins the poem with the description of Kubla Khan’s mystical capital which is situated near the Alps and is surrounded by deep jungle.
• In the next stanza, the poet provided a detailed description of the imaginary secret river and how it flows above and under the ground.
• In the third stanza the narrative style changes into the first person narrative from the third person narrative.
• In this part Coleridge describes a woman who is playing a string instrument. He also describes a man in his frenzy state.
• This poem includes a lot of imagery that helps the readers to visualize the scene vividly.
