Poets and Pancakes Summary
The Chapter begins with the author talking about Gemini Studio. He further goes on by discussing the pancakes. Pancakes were an essential make-up in those days, and a lot of movie stars have used it, hence the studio used to buy those in truckloads.
- The author mentioned a studio-boy, whose job was to do make-up for the crowds in the films. That studio-boy was actually a poet who had joined the studio with the dreams of being an actor, screenwriter, or lyricist, as there were no important jobs for the poets in those days.
- Subbu was another studio worker about whom the poet used to complain about in front of the author. Subbu was a Brahmin, but that was not the reason for his popularity. He was sincere, resourceful, and loyal. Subbu was also a poet yet he was a logical and neutral person.
- The author now moved on with the story of how Gemini Studio got a chance to host an international performing group that includes some well known international artists.
- The poet Stephen Spender was one of the internationally acclaimed poets who visited Gemini Studio in those days.
- The author remembers those days as he found a cheap copy of the book written by the same poet years later. In this part of the lesson, the author also expressed his idea and learnings of Communism.
