The central character of the story- The Enemy is a Japanese doctor, named- Dr, Sadao. The background of the story is set in the time of World War II. Through this story, the author has also created a clear picture of how war can destroy the lives of normal people.
- When World War II started, all medical professionals were called upon to treat the soldiers.
- Dr. Sadao, a Japanese Surgeon had to stay back as an old General was ill and he had to be taken care of.
- One night a wounded American soldier came to Dr. Sadao’s house. The soldier would be dead soon if not treated properly.
- On one hand, Sadao was a patriot who hated the Americans but on the other hand, he was a doctor who saves people. In this part of the story, Dr. Sadao's dilemma was portrayed pretty clearly.
- Finally, humanity owns, and Dr. Sadao not only treated the American soldier, but he also made sure the soldier can escape.
