My Mother at Sixty Six Summary
Kamala Das was a prominent poet in Indian English Literature. Her poems are mostly autobiographical. In this poem also, she narrates her own feelings as she was living with her sixty-six years old mother and traveling back to Cochin on a Friday.
- At the beginning of the poem, the reader can easily understand that the poet is traveling back to Cochin and her mother is sitting just beside her in the car, dozing.
- Now we will see her sixty six years old mother through the poet’s eyes.
- The poet’s once lively mother has now become old and looks almost like a corpse. With her old age, her mother becomes easily tired these days.
- Kamala Das then looks outside the window, watches the young green trees, and realizes that how growing old is inevitable.
