Going Places Summary
The story, Going Places is a third-person narrative. The story revolves around the fantasies and desires of a teenage girl- Sophie. Though she belongs to a poor family, she dreams about owning a boutique in the future. The story itself starts with her telling her friend Jansie about her fantasies.
- On the other hand, being realistic, Jansie tried to convince her friend Sophie not to indulge in fantasies. According to Jansie, as per their economical background, they will probably have to work in the biscuit company in the future.
- At this point of the story, the author decided to explain the family background of the central character Sophie. Sophie lives in a small house with her parents and two siblings. Her parents suggested she be realistic.
- The level of Sophie’s daydreaming was clear to the readers, as the author here describes her fantasies about the famous Irish Football player Danny Casey.
- Sophie told her little brother Geoff that she has met Danny Casey. But Geoff wasn’t ready to believe that as he knew her sister well.
- Sophie had started to believe in her fantasies so much, that she believed that she actually did meet Danny Casey and he will be back soon to meet her again. And Sophie waits for him to come back.
