Differences between Electro-Motive Force(EMF) and Potential Difference

The differences between EMF and Potential Differences are as tabulated below – 

Electromotive Force (EMF) Potential Difference
EMF is the potential difference between two electrodes of a battery or a cell in an open circuit. Potential Difference is the difference of potential between any 2 points of a closed circuit.
Electromotive Force is always greater than the potential difference between two points of a conductor. The potential difference is always less than EMF.
EMF Formula: E = I * (R + r). Potential Difference Formula: V = I * R.
EMF is caused by an electric, gravitational, or magnetic field. Voltage is produced only in the electric field.
EMF is independent of resistance. Potential Difference is dependent on resistance.
