Top Colleges in Patna 2026: Fees, Admission, Ranking, Cutoff, Placement.

Ans. Only two of Patna’s 42 MBA and PGDM colleges publish an entrance cutoff at all; the rest admit on a university test or on graduation marks. Two routes follow from that.

Scenario 1 — a CAT, CMAT or MAT score in the 55 to 75 band. This still reaches CIMP Patna, which normalises rather than rejects a non-CAT score: CAT, XAT and GMAT count at full weight, CMAT and CUET PG at 0.75, MAT and ATMA at 0.60, so a MAT 90 enters its merit list as 54.

Scenario 2 — no national score at all. This is where most Patna seats sit, and where the return on fees is highest.

A published cutoff only decides who gets shortlisted. Three Patna colleges publish how the final call is weighted. CIMP Patna scores the entrance test at 35%, the personal interview at 20%, the group discussion at 15%, the written and psychometric tests at 5%, and Class 10 marks, Class 12 marks, graduation marks, work experience and diversity at 5% each — and rejects outright anyone below 25% of the combined group discussion and interview marks. JD Women’s College Patna weights its written test 80%, the group discussion 10% and the interview 10%. LNMI Patna combines entrance, group discussion and interview without publishing a split.

Ans. No Patna business school publishes a dated list of its own previous-year topics, so the bank below is a general set grouped by the kind of discussion each round runs, with no year attached to any topic. CIMP Patna is the only college in the city that states that it runs a written ability test, a psychometric test and a group discussion, and it publishes their weights without publishing their topics.

The format matters more than the topic. A written answer is marked on relevance, critical thinking, structure, language and a stated conclusion; a group round is marked on who initiates, who negotiates and who closes.

Ans. Start by checking whether your target college runs a group round at all, because most Patna MBA seats are decided on graduation marks or a university test with no group discussion. The seven points below cover the three formats actually used in the city.

• Check first whether your target college runs a group round at all. Patliputra University Patna and RPSIT Patna admit on graduation merit alone, and Patna University, MMHAPU Patna and AKU Patna decide on their own written tests.

• Carry your work experience into every answer — CIMP Patna and LNMI Patna both weight it explicitly.

Ans. Entrance route. Collegedunia records MAT at 12 Patna colleges, CMAT at 11, CAT at 11, XAT at 9, GMAT at 3 and ATMA at 3. Each of those counts is computed with its own filter removed, so they overlap and do not add up to 42. Three colleges run their own test instead of accepting a national score.

Amity University Patna’s 85 CAT is the highest published cutoff in the city, above CIMP Patna’s 75, because it is a shortlisting threshold for a single MBA intake rather than a closing percentile across several specialisations.

University counselling route. The constituent colleges of Patliputra University, which include CCAS Patna and JD Women’s College Patna, admit through the university’s online portal: enter the entrance score, wait for the merit list, then attend the group discussion and interview at the college. Bihar’s reservation applies throughout — 15% Scheduled Caste, 7.5% Scheduled Tribe, 27% Other Backward Classes and 3% for persons with disabilities — and Patliputra University’s constituent colleges waive tuition for women. Patna University runs its own postgraduate entrance exam in late July and MMHAPU Patna its own test in the same window.

Direct-admission route. These Patna colleges admit on graduation marks with no entrance test of any kind.

Seven of the colleges above state in their own words that they operate no management quota: CCAS Patna, Patna University, JD Women’s College Patna, Patna Women’s College, MMHAPU Patna, AIIMS Patna and IIT Patna.

Ans. Two. UGEAC, the undergraduate engineering counselling run by the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board, covers only the state’s government engineering colleges, and in Patna district that means BCE Patna and, through its dairy institute, BASU Patna. Collegedunia records JEE Main at 7 of the city’s 18 colleges and BPTPIA CET — the Bihar Private Technical and Professional Institutions Association’s own test — at 6, which is how most private colleges here actually admit.

There is no management-quota column because neither college has one: the UGEAC 2026 seat matrix books all 420 BCE Patna seats as government seats across seven branches, with no management column at all. Bihar’s government engineering colleges have no management quota.

Ans. Twelve of the city’s eighteen engineering colleges offer a B.Tech badged Computer Science and Engineering, at fees running from 1.40 Lakh to 18.57 Lakh. Only four publish a closing rank, and those four are not on one scale.

Two colleges in the main table are missing from that twelve because Collegedunia files their computing course under another name: Quad AI Patna teaches Computer Science and Engineering in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at 8.00 Lakh, and NSIT Patna teaches Computer Science at 4.77 Lakh. The four published cutoffs sit on three different scales and cannot be compared with each other: IIT Patna’s 3635 is a JEE Advanced rank, NIT Patna’s 17282 and BIT Patna’s 24247 are JEE Main ranks, and BCE Patna’s 387 is a Bihar state merit rank, which on the JEE Main scale is a closing rank of 126491. BCE Patna is the value pick of the four at a government fee of 1.40 Lakh for the same branch BIT Patna prices at 18.57 Lakh.

Ans. Two, both on the all-India seat pool. IIT Patna sits outside this band because it admits on JEE Advanced, a different examination and a different scale.

Ans. Three colleges, all reached through Bihar UGEAC counselling on a JEE Main rank. BIT Patna appears in both bands because its all-India seats close near rank 24247 while its Bihar home-state seats close past 1 Lakh.

Neither Bihar’s UGEAC counselling nor the BCECE engineering paper admits to a private college, so a candidate aiming at the private sector in Patna is preparing for the BPTPIA test rather than for the state board.

Ans. Patna’s engineering medians run from 3.60 LPA at the private colleges to 22.50 LPA at IIT Patna, a gap far wider than the fee gap that produces it. The table below groups the colleges that publish a figure.

IIT Patna’s 22.50 LPA median is more than three times NIT Patna’s 7.00 LPA and more than six times the 3.60 LPA the BPTPIA-route colleges report. The Bihar government colleges publish no median at all.

CIMAGE Patna is the next cheapest private college at 2.49 Lakh for Electronics and Communication Engineering.

Ans. Entrance route. Bihar runs no state law common entrance test, and no three-year LLB in Patna accepts a national law exam at all. CLAT reaches three Patna institutions — CNLU Patna, Amity University Patna and AIHE Patna — but only for their five-year integrated degrees, and AIHE Patna also accepts LSAT India. CNLU Patna accepts CLAT PG for its LLM. Four institution-level tests cover the three-year LLB.

Ans. CNLU Patna charges INR 5.16 Lakh for its three-year LLB (Hons.), the highest law fee in the city. It is ranked 17 in NIRF Law 2025, 11 by India Today and 37 by IIRF, and it is the only Patna law college inside NIRF’s Law top 40.

CNLU Patna files no NIRF row for its three-year LLB, so no median can be attached to that programme. Its five-year integrated cohort does have one: a median of 12.00 LPA in the NIRF 2026 submission, up from 10.10 LPA three years earlier, with 80 of 103 graduates placed. Against that cohort’s own figure the three-year fee of INR 5.16 Lakh is about 43% of a single year’s median pay. Read the 12.00 LPA as what the integrated stream earns, not as the three-year programme’s return.

CNLU Patna publishes its recruiters: Khaitan and Co, Trilegal, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, JSA and Tuli and Co, alongside ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda and National Insurance Company.

Ans. Ten colleges and eight routes, not one of them a Bihar state law test.

Ans. Every MBBS seat in Patna is filled from the NEET UG result, and the Bihar state quota adds a domicile condition on top of the national criteria.

• A candidate must have completed 17 years of age on or before 31 December of the admission year, and there is no upper age limit.
• Class 12 must include Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English.
• The qualifying NEET percentile is the 50th for General and EWS, the 45th for General candidates with a benchmark disability, and the 40th for Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and reserved-category candidates with a disability.
• For the 85% Bihar state quota run by BCECEB, a candidate must hold a Bihar Residential Certificate, which is the state’s domicile test.
• AIIMS Patna sits outside the state quota entirely — all 125 of its seats are filled through the Medical Counselling Committee’s All India Quota.
• NEET UG 2026 is the operative examination. The paper scheduled for 3 May 2026 was cancelled and a re-examination was held on 21 June 2026.

Ans. No. NEET UG is compulsory for every MBBS seat in India, and in Bihar the entire process runs through two merit-based authorities with no third route.

Across the five Patna colleges there is not a single management-quota seat: AIIMS Patna fills all 125 of its seats through the All India Quota, PMCH Patna, NMCH Patna and IGIMS Patna fill theirs through a mix of All India Quota and Bihar state quota, and NSMCH Patna has 230 open seats plus 20 NRI seats. Those 20 NRI seats are the only non-open seats in the block, and they are still allotted on NEET rank through the same state counselling.

No admission route to a Patna MBBS seat exists outside BCECEB or MCC counselling.

Ans. No Patna college charges a management-quota fee, so the real divide is between the government colleges and the one private college.

NSMCH Patna’s 85.75 Lakh is its own notified rate for Resident Indians, filed with the Bihar counselling board in August 2026: tuition of 15.25 Lakh a year across four and a half academic years, hostel and mess of 2.75 Lakh a year across five and a half, and a refundable security deposit of 2.00 Lakh. Its NRI rate is USD 31,000 a year plus the same hostel and deposit. IGIMS Patna’s 3.55 Lakh reconciles exactly to its own 2026 admission circular. PMCH Patna and NMCH Patna are both priced on the same Bihar government schedule, which puts academic charges at 61.10 K and the figure with hostel at 1.27 Lakh, so the two Collegedunia totals above differ more than the state schedule does. Bihar’s private medical fees are currently governed by an interim High Court order of November 2025, with the state’s 2023 resolution capping half of private seats at government rates stayed pending a Supreme Court hearing.

Ans. Two authorities run parallel counselling on the same NEET UG result.

• All India Quota, 15%. Conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee at mcc.nic.in. In Patna this covers all of AIIMS Patna and a share of the three government colleges.
• Bihar state quota, 85%. Conducted by BCECEB at bceceboard.bihar.gov.in under the UGMAC process, covering the state seats at PMCH Patna, NMCH Patna and IGIMS Patna and all seats at NSMCH Patna.

The Bihar flow runs: register for UGMAC with the NEET roll number, upload documents including the Residential Certificate, check the rank card and merit list, fill college choices in preference order, receive the online allotment, pay the fee, and report for document verification. BCECEB runs four rounds followed by a stray vacancy round, and a private-college allottee pays a refundable security deposit of 2.00 Lakh.

The 2026 cycle is live. Rounds 1 and 2 are complete and Round 3 is open, with allotment due on 14 October 2026 and verification on 16 and 17 October. Bihar carried 679 vacant seats into Round 3, including 15 at PMCH Patna, 16 at NMCH Patna, 3 at IGIMS Patna and 24 at NSMCH Patna.

Ans. MBBS is not a placement-driven degree, and the one Patna college that files the data says so plainly. AIIMS Patna’s NIRF 2026 submission reports 92 graduates in 2023-24, of whom 54 were placed and 38 went on to higher study, on a reported median of 14.27 LPA. Across the four years it reports, higher study absorbs between a third and well over half of each cohort.

• Those graduates are in the NEET PG queue. Every one of the five colleges runs postgraduate programmes in the same city — AIIMS Patna with 181 MD, MS and MDS seats plus 46 DM and MCh seats, PMCH Patna with 101 state quota MD and MS seats across 21 specialities, NMCH Patna with 58, IGIMS Patna with 52 and NSMCH Patna with 50.
• Before any of that comes the compulsory rotating internship of one year. Bihar raised the intern stipend at its government medical colleges from INR 20,000 to INR 27,000 a month with effect from 8 September 2025, which is what PMCH Patna and NMCH Patna now pay. The other three publish no figure.
