The Tiger King Summary
The Tiger King, written by Kalki Krishnamurthy, includes three main characters- The King of Pratibandapuram, the Crown Prince, and the royal astrologer. Through this satire, the author represented the concept of misuse of power in silly issues.
- The Royal Astrologer predicted that the cause of Maharaja’s death would be a tiger. So Maharaja Sir Jilani Jung Jung Bhadur decided to kill at least 100 tigers so that he could not be killed by them.
- In this process, the Maharaja did not even allow a British Officer to hunt a tiger. Instead, he sent diamond jewelry to the officer’s wife to make them happy. In this part, the theme of British rule is portrayed very clearly.
- The Maharaja was able to kill 70 tigers, and as he could not find more in his locality, he decided to marry any princess from a place where more tigers can be found.
- When the Maharaja could not find the 100th tiger to kill, the royal workers brought one from a zoo.
- But ironically the cause of Maharaja’s death was a poorly made wooden tiger that he brought for the prince to play with.
