On the Face of It Summary
The story has two central characters- the first one is an old man, Mr.Lamb, who has a tin leg; and the second one is Derry, with a burnt face. This story is all about their friendship.
- One day as Derry went to sit in Mr.Lamb’s garden presuming that was just an empty place when Mr. Lamb ask him to be cautious about the small apple trees.
- As Derry enters the place knowing Mr.Lamb always keeps the door open for the people, they start bonding as they started understanding each other’s difficulties to make friends due to their physical impairments.
- As Derry thought Mr.Lamb wants to ask about his burnt face, he explained the incident on his own.
- They started talking about the fairytale – ‘Beauty and the Beast”. Through this part, the author tries to make the readers understand how physical appearances can be deceptive. Mr. Lamb was the only one motivating Derry to live for his dreams.
- By the time Derry started to believe in his dreams and the goodness of the people, he found Mr. Lamb was dead.
