CAT 2026 Mock Test Strategy

Mock tests should be used to measure accuracy, question selection and time management, rather than simply increasing the number of tests. After every mock, candidates should identify the topics and question types that need more practice.

• Analyse each mock after completing it and review the correct, incorrect and unattempted questions.
• Maintain an error log with the topic, question type and reason for the mistake.
• Add new topics only after performance in the already-covered areas becomes consistent across mocks.

A correct answer adds three marks and an incorrect MCQ takes one away. Twelve extra attempts at low accuracy add nothing to the total.

• TITA questions carry no deduction, so every one of them should be answered.
• An attempt is worth making when two options can be ruled out.

The table shows why increasing attempts does not automatically increase the score. The 34-attempt example produces 82 marks, while the 42-attempt example produces 78 because the additional attempts come with more errors.
