CAT Exam Centers 2018: State-wise Test Venues

CAT Exam Centers 2018: The convening body of CAT 2018, expected to be IIM Calcutta, will release the list of the exam centers at its official website iimcat.ac.in. CAT Test Cities will be released once the notification is out in July. It must be noted that the final allotted center will be mentioned on the admit card. CAT 2018 is scheduled for November 25in online mode, registration begins from August 8.

Last year, the Common Admission Test was held in 144 cities across India and at more than 400 test venues. It is expected that the number of CAT centers will shoot up beyond 144 to accommodate the test takers. IIMs reserves the right to change or cancel any exam center/ city or change the time and date at their own discretion.

Last year, IIM Lucknow added some new test cities for CAT. The list of New CAT Centres, added in 2017, is given below:

Instructions for CAT Exam Centers 2018

  • Candidates can choose 4 preferred exam centers while filling CAT Application Form.
  • Candidates must have their admit cards with photograph same as the one uploaded in the application form affixed to it.
  • An original valid ID proof- Aadhar Card, Passport, Driving License, PAN Card, Voter ID, College ID, Employer ID, or Identification Affidavit is to be presented at the gates of the exam centers.
  • No other documents or item is allowed inside the exam centers.
  • No item other than admit card and ID proof is allowed inside the exam centers.
  • Candidates will be asked to remove their footwear before entering the examination hall.
  • Jewelry, watches, electronic gadgets like mobile phones, calculators, etc. or any other metal item are not allowed inside the exam centers.
  • Under no circumstances will the allotted exam center be changed.
  • Every year new exam centers are added to the list. The same is expected for this year as well.
  • Candidates are advised to choose exam centers closer to their city of residence.

Schedule followed at CAT 2018 Exam Centers

  • Two sessions of the exam are conducted each center- forenoon and afternoon.
  • Forenoon session is from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Reporting time for forenoon session is 7:30 AM.
  • Afternoon session is from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Reporting time for afternoon session is 1:00 PM.
  • Entry in the exam centers will end at-
  1. 8:45 AM for forenoon session
  2. 2:15 PM for afternoon session

CAT 2018 Admit Card

  • The admit card of CAT will be available from October 24, 2018.
  • Candidates can download their hall ticket from the official website.
  •  Admit card is to be submitted to the invigilator at the end of the exam.

CAT 2018 Exam Pattern

  • CAT is a 180-minutes long computer-based test.
  • It consists of 100 questions from 3 sections namely, Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude.
  •  The questions are a combination of MCQs and non-MCQs. Each section is allotted a time limit of 60 minutes.
  • Each question carries 3 marks. For each incorrect answer, 1 mark is deducted.
  • There is no negative marking in case of non-MCQs.
  • The number questions in each section is revealed in the official mock test released by the conducting IIM.

CAT Exam Center FAQs 

Question 1: Who will be conducting CAT 2018?

Answer: IIM Calcutta will be conducting CAT 2018 exam across the country.

Question 2: Who will release the list of exam centers for CAT 2018?

Answer: IIM Calcutta will be releasing the list of exam centers at its official website iimcat.ac.in.

Question 3: When can we expect the list to be out?

Answer: The list for exam centers will be released only after the official notification for CAT 2018 is out, which is in July, 2018.

Question 4: Can we choose our exam centers for CAT 2018?

Answer: Yes, while filling in the application form for CAT 2018, you will be asked to fill your preferred exam centers. The conducting authority will try its best to allot everyone their desired exam center, but it doesn’t guarantee the same.

Question 5: Where can we check our final allotted exam center?

Answer: Final allotted exam center will be mentioned on the admit card. All students must carefully check their exam center as soon as they receive their admit cards. 

Question 6: Can we change our exam center?

Answer: No, once the examination center is allotted on the admit card, under no circumstances will it be changed.

Question 7: In how many cities will CAT 2018 be conducted?

Answer: CAT 2018 will be conducted in 140 cities across the country at more than 400 test venues.

Question 8: How many preferences for test cities can we provide?

Answer: While registering for CAT 2018, you can provide up-to 4 test cities, according to your preference and comfort.

Question 9: On what basis time slot for CAT 2018 will be allotted?

Answer: Time slots for CAT Exam are generally allotted randomly. There is no such basis to decide.

Question 10: Which are the new test-centers added for CAT Exam?

Answer: Last year, 9 new test centers were added by IIM Lucknow to accommodate the growing number of test-takers. Given below is the list of them:

Question 11: Is it compulsory to bring a hard copy of CAT Admit Card to Exam Center?

Answer: Yes, it is very important to bring CAT admit card to the exam center, with photograph same as the one uploaded in the application form affixed to it.

Question 12: What will happen if we forget to bring the admit card?

Answer: Any student who doesn’t bring the admit card to the exam center, will not be allowed to give the exam.

Question 13: Which documents are we supposed to bring to the exam center?

Answer: On the exam day, a hard copy of admit card and an original valid ID proof will have to be presented at the gates of the exam centers. Without these, entry to the examination hall will not be permitted. No other documents are allowed inside the exam center.

Question 14: What can be a valid ID proof?

Answer: Aadhar Card, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Driving License, College ID, Employer ID, or Identification Affidavit can be considered as a valid ID proof. Note that all these should be original, photocopies will not be accepted.

Question 15: Will we have to remove the footwear?

Answer: Yes, before entering in the examination hall, all students will have to remove their footwear.

Question 16: Is calculator allowed inside the examination hall?

Answer: No, calculators, jewelry, watches, mobile phones or any other metal item or electronic gadget are not allowed inside the exam centers.

Question 17: Will more exam centers be added?

Answer: Usually, every year new exam centers are added to the list, so, the same is expected for this year also.

Question 18: How many sessions of exam are conducted?

Answer: At every exam center, there are two sessions of exam, forenoon & afternoon.

Question 19: What is the timing for forenoon session?

Answer: Forenoon session is from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, for which the reporting time is 7:30 am.

Question 20: What is the reporting time for afternoon session?

Answer: Afternoon session is from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, for which students are supposed to report at 1:00 pm.

Question 21: Until when, is the entry allowed for forenoon session?

Answer: For forenoon session, entry in the exam centers will end at 8:45 am. Students are advised to report early on the exam day. Entry after 8:45 am will not be allowed under any circumstances.

Question 22: Until when, is the entry allowed for afternoon session?

Answer: For afternoon session, no entry will be permitted after 2:15 pm under any circumstances.

Question 23: Is it a pen-paper test or computer based?

Answer: CAT 2018 is a computer based test consisting of three sections. There will be both MCQ and Non MCQ questions in the question paper.

Question 24: How much time is allotted to complete the exam?

Answer: Three hours (180 minutes) are allotted to complete the test having 100 questions of both MCQ and Non MCQ nature.

Question 25: How many rough sheets will be provided in the exam hall?

Answer: They will provide you with unlimited rough sheets, but still practice consuming less rough sheets and minimize usage.

Question 26: Are we allowed to carry stationary items?

Answer: As CAT 2018 is a computer-based test, students are advised to carry minimum stationary item. In the examination hall, you will be provided with a pencil and a rough sheet. You can carry a pen with you if you want.

Question 27: Is mehendi allowed in the examination hall?

 Answer: No, mehendi is not allowed in the examination hall, as your digital fingerprint scan will be captured in the exam center. If your fingerprints cannot be digitally scanned due to reasons like applying Mehndi/any cosmetic colors etc., then they will not be permitted to take the test.

Question 28: How will we perform the calculations in the exam hall without a calculator?

Answer: In the examination hall, all students will be provided a basic On-screen Calculator for Computing. Therefore, you will be able to access the on-screen calculator and are not allowed to take any personal calculators for the test.

Question 29: Till when can we expect CAT 2018 Admit Card?

Answer: CAT 2018 Admit Cards will be out from October 24, 2018.

Question 30: Won’t soft copy of admit cards be enough to enter in the exam center?

Answer: No, soft copies of admit card will not be enough for entry to the exam center. You must carry a print out of your admit card on a A4 size sheet.
