CAT 2018 Application Form- Register Online

CAT 2018 Application Form will be available online from August 8 at Registration process involves 4 main steps: registration, application form filling, uploading documents and paying the fee. Interested candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% aggregate.

This year, IIM Calcutta has scheduled CAT 2018 for November 25 in computer-based mode. Candidiates who have successfully registered for the examination can download their admit card/ e-ticket from October 24, available at Read on to know more about the registration process, dates and other important points related to the process.

  • The registration process for CAT 2018 will start from August 8 and will continue until September 26, 2018.
  • General/NC-OBC candidates will have to pay the application fee of INR 1900. For SC/ST /PWD candidates, the fee will be INR 950.
  • The CAT Application Correction facility will be provided in the 4th week of September 2018.
  • Based on CAT Past Year Trends, nearly 2.5 lakhs applications are expected this year.

Pre-requisites for CAT Application Form 2018

The documents/information required while filling the CAT Application Form are mentioned below-

  • Valid email address
  • Valid mobile number
  • Academic details such as percentage/CGPA in class 10th, 12th and graduation
  • Applicable certificates to upload
  • Scanned images of photograph and signature

How to apply for CAT 2018?

Step 1- Registration

Candidates need to register and create a profile on Through the Registration, a unique registration id and password will be generated. These credentials will be needed throughout the entrance process.

Steps to apply for CAT 2018 are mentioned below:

  1. Click on ‘Register Now’.
  2. Enter- Name of Candidate, Date of Birth, Email Address and Mobile Number.
  3. Enter the Captcha code correctly.
  4. Click on ‘I Agree’ and ‘Submit’ the form

Step 2- Filling the Application Form

After completing the registration, candidates have to login to their profiles using the credentials provided to them. They need to fill the following details in the application form:

  • Father’s/Husband’s/Guardian’s Name Mother’s Name
  • Gender Nationality
  • Category
  • PwD Status
  • Aadhar Card Number

  • Communication AddressA valid correspondence address must be filled in as it will be used for all future communications.
  • Alternate mobile number and email address 
  • Documents to be uploaded:
    • A scanned image of passport size photograph within the dimensions of 35mm X 45mm must be uploaded.
    • A scanned image of the signatures within dimensions of 80mm X 35mm.
    • Images should be in .jpg or .jpeg format with file size of maximum 80 kb.
    • Certificates of those belonging to different categories, with attested signatures of the concerned authorities must be uploaded as a pdf file.

  • For SSC/10th class/ equivalent examination- It is compulsory for all candidates. The details required are:
    • Aggregate Marks (in Percentage)
    • Total Marks Obtained
    • Maximum Marks
    • Board Name of SSC/10th /Equivalent Exam
    • Month and Year of Completion
  • HSC/12th class examination /Diploma and Bachelor Degree Details (Compulsory for all candidates)- 
    • Select the Course Type
    • Aggregate Marks (in Percentage)
    • Total Marks Obtained
    • Maximum Marks
    • Enter the Bachelor’s Degree details 
    • If you have more than one Bachelor’s degree then tick the check box () for adding extra information
  • If a candidate has a master’s or any other professional degree, he/she can enter its details accordingly

If a candidate has any work experience till the date of July 31, 2018, they must enter the details of work experience.

  • Candidate must select the programmes they wish to apply for. 
  • Along with programme, they must choose the city they wish to appear for the interview.

Step 3- Application Fee Payment

  • Payment can only be made online. Amount payable for application fee has been mentioned below this section
  • In case of card payment, candidate must provide card number, validity expiry date, CVV/CVV2 number.
  • In case of net banking, candidate must login and enter password to proceed with procedure of fee payment.
  • Candidate must select “I agree” box to complete the application process for CAT Exam.
  • After candidate selects the “I Agree” box, he/she must select “submit and pay” button.
  • Candidates applying for CAT 2018 will receive a confirmation mail on the registered email id.

Ques.  Do I need to fill the aggregate percentage of marks or as per my University standards?

Ans. As per CAT Eligibility Criteria, you have to fill the percentage according to your university norms.

Ques.  What marks do I need to enter in CAT Application Form if I am in final year of Bachelor’s degree?

Ans. You must provide the Aggregate Percentage up to the last marks statement received from the University as per CAT Exam Eligibility Criteria.

Ques.  I have completed my 10th/12th standard from CBSE Board. Do I need to submit the marks cited on the mark list?

Ans. As per CAT eligibility criteria, you must mention the Aggregate Percentage of marks (computed using the conversion formula specified by CBSE for converting CGPA into the percentage of marks) for all the subjects irrespective of your education board regulations.

Ques.  What is the application fee for CAT Exam 2018?

Ans. The application fee is INR 900 for SC/ST/PwD category candidates and INR 1800 for all other categories of candidates.

Ques.  Where and how can I pay CAT application fee?

Ans. The fee has to be paid after completing CAT application form. The fee can be paid using a valid credit card, debit card, or net banking facility.

Ques. When and how do I register for CAT 2018?

Ques.  Can I use my coaching institute’s or a friend’s email address at the time of filling CAT Application Form?

Ans. No. A valid and unique email address must be provided. All the information related to CAT exam and the following info during CAT selection criteria of the respective IIMs will be communicated to the registered email address only.

Ques.  From where can I get the list of exam cities?

Ans. The list of exam cities is available at under Exam Cities tab. There, you have to select the State/Union Territory and then the names of test city will appear on the screen. The exam cities will also be available in the form of a drop-down list at the time of filling CAT Application Form.

Ques.  I have made mistake(s) while registering/entering the details in my CAT 2018 application. What should I do now?

Ans. You cannot edit certain personal details like Name, Date of Birth, email id, mobile number etc., at any stage in CAT Registration (either before or after submitting CAT application form).

If you have made a mistake in these details, you must register again with a new email ID. You can edit some personal details, such as Communication Address, Gender, Category, Educational Information, Work Experience, or Exam City preferences etc. until you have not submitted CAT Application Form.

After you submit CAT Application Form, there will be a limited time during which you can modify only a few details such as Percentage of Marks scored, Programs Selected, Work Experience, etc.

The details, that you won’t be able to change or modify are: details entered in the Personal Details section, Academics section except the percentage marks scored, Exam Centre City Preferences. You can only view and print after this.

You must preview your filled-in CAT application form before submission to ensure that all the details are correct.

Ques.  I have an SC/ST certificate in the same format as uploaded at Can I use the same certificate or do I have to download the certificate template from the CAT website and fill it again?

Ans. If your certificate fulfills the following conditions then you can upload the same category certificate:

  • It should be issued by a competent authority.
  • The name of the caste and caste number must appear in the caste certificate.
  • The Ministry's resolution/order number must be available.
  • The certificate should be either in Hindi or English language only.

Ques. I have changed my name with the due procedure after completing my degree. Which name should I enter- my name as per the degree certificate or the changed name?

You must enter your changed name and provide the supporting documents for change of name at the time of examination, interview, and admission.

Ques. What should I do if I have lost the SMS of Password received?

Ans. Click the Forgot Password option on the Existing User Login Page. Enter the captcha code and the password will be sent to your registered email ID. It will not be sent as an SMS.

Ques.  I have received multiple passwords. Which password should I enter to log in?

Ans. You need to use the password contained in the most recent SMS you have received. In case you are not able to log in, you can simply use your user id and click ‘forgot password’. You will receive a new password through email on your registered email id.

Ques. What should I do/select if my University name is not mentioned in the drop-down list while filling CAT application form?

Ans. If your university’s name does not appear in the drop-down then select “Others” option.

Ques. What are the documents that need to be uploaded while filling CAT Application Form?

Ans. Apart from uploading photograph and signature of the candidate, following certificates have to be uploaded-

  1. Category Certificate- If you have chosen NC-OBC or SC or ST as the category, then you need to upload the relevant certificate.
  2. PwD Certificate- If you are a PwD category applicant, then you need to upload the relevant PwD certificate.
