NEET 2027 eligibility requires a minimum age of 17 years as of December 31, 2027, a Class 12 pass with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and at least 50% aggregate marks in PCB for the General category.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2027 will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS, BHMS and other undergraduate medical programmes across India. Before applying, students must meet the eligibility conditions set by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Understanding these criteria early helps you avoid disqualification at the time of counselling.

  • Minimum age: 17 years on or before December 31, 2027.
  • No upper age limit — the Supreme Court struck down the age cap in 2018.
  • Must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Biotechnology as core subjects.
  • General category: 50% aggregate in PCB; SC/ST/OBC: 40%; PwD (General): 45%.
  • No cap on number of attempts — students may appear in NEET UG any number of times.
  • Indian nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs and foreign nationals are all eligible to apply.

NEET 2027 Age Limit

The minimum age to appear in NEET 2027 is 17 years, and your date of birth must be on or before December 31, 2027. Students born after this date are not eligible to apply for that cycle.

There is no upper age limit for NEET UG. The Supreme Court of India struck down the upper age cap — which was 25 years for the General category and 30 years for reserved categories — in a landmark 2018 ruling. The NMC has not reinstated any upper cap since then, so students of any age who meet the other criteria may sit for the exam.

PwD 17 years No limit
NRI / OCI / PIO / Foreign 17 years No limit

Educational Qualification Required for NEET 2027

You must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English as compulsory subjects.

Students who are appearing in their Class 12 board exam in 2027 are also eligible to apply provisionally. Admission will be granted only after they submit the passing certificate with the required minimum marks. The table below covers all valid qualifying categories.

Qualifying Examination Required Subjects
Class 12 (CBSE / State Board) Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, English
Intermediate Science (equivalent) Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, English
Pre-degree course (university level) Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, English
National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English
Appearing in 2027 board exams Must clear with required marks before counselling

Biology and Biotechnology are interchangeable as the life-science subject. Students who studied Biotechnology in place of Biology are fully eligible to apply for NEET 2027.

Minimum Marks in Class 12 for NEET 2027

General and EWS category students must secure at least 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Class 12; SC, ST and OBC students need a minimum of 40%.

The aggregate is calculated on the basis of marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology combined, not across all subjects. English is compulsory but is not counted in the PCB aggregate for eligibility purposes. Students with a compartment or supplementary result are not eligible until they clear all subjects and obtain the full pass certificate.

Category Minimum PCB Aggregate
General / EWS 50%
SC / ST / OBC 40%
PwD – General / EWS 45%
PwD – SC / ST / OBC 40%

Number of Attempts Allowed in NEET 2027

There is no restriction on the number of times you can appear for NEET UG. The NMC removed the earlier cap of three attempts and no new limit has been imposed since.

A student who appeared in NEET in any previous year can still apply for NEET 2027 without any penalty. The only conditions that carry over are the age and qualification criteria — as long as you meet those, you may attempt the exam in any year.

  • Attempts in previous years do not count against eligibility.
  • Students who qualified NEET earlier but did not join a course may reappear to improve their rank.
  • Each year’s NEET score is valid for admission only in that particular counselling cycle.

Nationality Criteria for NEET 2027
