The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has introduced major reforms to the NEET UG 2026 counselling process ahead of the commencement of MBBS, BDS, and other UG medical admissions.

Under the revised guidelines, candidates who opt for seat upgradation after being allotted a seat will no longer be required to physically report to the allotted medical college.

What Are the Major Changes in NEET UG 2026 Counselling?

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved several reforms in the MCC counselling process for the 2026-27 academic session.

The key objective is to simplify admissions and reduce the burden on candidates during counselling.

No Physical Reporting Required for Seat Upgradation

• Candidates allotted a seat in any round of MCC counselling who choose the "Upgrade" option in subsequent rounds will not have to physically report to the allotted institute.
• Their admission will remain valid while they participate in the next round of counselling. Earlier, candidates had to report physically to retain their allotted seat before seeking an upgrade.

MCC Launches Online Resignation Facility

• MCC has introduced an online resignation portal allowing candidates to surrender their allotted seat without visiting the medical college.
• Candidates can resign online within the timelines prescribed by MCC counselling rules.

Online Document Upload for NRI Quota

• Candidates applying under the NRI quota in deemed universities can now upload all required supporting documents directly through the MCC counselling portal.
• This is expected to speed up the verification process and reduce document-related delays.

NEET UG 2026 Result Highlights

The counselling reforms follow the declaration of the NEET UG 2026 Result on July 16, 2026.

Some important highlights are:

• Aryan Gupta (Punjab) and Panshul Bansal (Haryana) jointly secured AIR 1 with 715/720 marks.
• No candidate scored a perfect 720/720 this year.
• 19 candidates scored 700+ marks.
• 138 candidates secured 690 marks or above.
• 1,492 candidates scored 650+ marks.
• 10,160 candidates scored 600+ marks.
• 90,780 candidates scored 500+ marks.
• More than 58% of the qualified candidates were women.

NTA has also extended the deadline to update bank account details to July 31, 2026.
