What was the difficulty level of the JEE Main April 2 exam shift-wise?
Vivek Yadav shared that the April 2 JEE Main 2025 has a difference in difficulty level in both shifts, especially in maths.
- Shift 1 (Morning): Overall, moderate level; Mathematics was long, Physics was conceptual, and Chemistry was still NCERT-based and simple.
- Shift 2 (Afternoon): Little more difficult than Shift 1; Mathematics was extremely calculative, Physics had tricky questions, and Chemistry remained scoring.
Both shifts were manageable, but Shift 2 needed more time management because Mathematics and Physics were more challenging.
How was the paper on April 3 compared to April 2?
The JEE Main 2025 exam held on April 3 saw a moderate increase in overall difficulty over the April 2 exam majorly due to more challenging questions in Physics and Mathematics, according to expert analysis by Collegedunia.
- Mathematics: The April 3 exam included more complex questions than April 2, featured longer and more intricate problems than April 2, with some questions having high-order calculations and lengthy solutions.
- Physics: On April 3, Exams had more multi-concept and application-based questions, as compared to April 2, which had formula-based and direct questions.
- Chemistry: Chemistry was the easiest in both days with NCERT-based direct questions and expected patterns.
Was there any major change in the pattern of questions this time?

- Exam Structure: The paper was structured the same way — 75 questions in total (25 in each subject), 20 MCQs, and 5 numerical questions for each subject (attempt any 5 numericals).
- Question Type: The question types MCQs and numericals are similar and unchanged from January. There were no new question types introduced.
- Numerical Section: Numerical questions in Mathematics are more calculation-based as compared to the Session 1, and thus, the section was time-consuming.
- Difficulty Shift: Physics papers in April are more concept-based, whereas Chemistry remained mostly NCERT-based for both sessions.
- Topic Distribution: Both Class 11 and Class 12 syllabus subjects were divided quite evenly, having a consistent weightage to January without much changes.
What advice would you give to candidates appearing for the next shifts (April 7, 8, and 9)?
