Frequently Asked Questions

JEE Main Seat Allotment FAQs

Ques. Can I participate in the seat allotment in further rounds without accepting the currently offered seat?

Ans. It is advised to not fill-in the choices for the courses that you are not interested. In case, you do not accept the seat, you will be out from the seat allotment procedure and will not be able to participate in further JoSAA rounds. Such candidates can participate in CSAB Special Round (conducted only for NITs, IIITs & GFTIs).

Ques.I got a seat in the first round of allotment. Due to some unavoidable reason, I will not be able to accept the seat at this moment. Can I accept the same seat later?

Ans. No, it is necessary to report in person and accept the seat in the respective seat acceptance period of the round. Failing to do so will result in losing the seat and will be out of seat allotment process in JoSAA. However, such candidates can participate in CSAB Special Round.

Ques. I am from Bhopal and I have been offered a seat in an IIT. Can I report at the RC at NIT Bhopal for accepting the seat?

Ans. No, anyone who is offered a seat in an IIT must report at any of the 17 reporting centers of IITs. The list is available on the JoSAA portal.

Ques. What is the meaning of dual reporting in JEE Main?

Ans. If you have accepted an NIT seat in the previous round and your seat is now upgraded to an IIT, then you have to report at an RC of IITs and accept the seat. Otherwise, you will lose both the seats. Similarly, if a candidate’s seat is changed from an IIT to an NIT, he has to report at an RC of NIT to accept the seat.

Ques. Will there be a spot counselling round for NITs/IIITs/Other-GFTIs?

Ans. No, there is no spot round. But, there will be a special round for NITs/IIITs/Other-GFTIs only after all the 7 rounds of seat allocation are over. This would involve new choice filling where all candidates (including those who are already admitted, non-admitted and those who did not fill choices earlier) can fill-in their choices.

Ques. Is JoSAA responsible for seat matrix data?

Ans. No, JoSAA is not responsible for the seat matrix data. The authority only allocates seats as per the seat matrix data provided by the participating institutes.

Ques. Can I get an NIT seat with a 15000 obc rank in JEE Mains?

● Top Answer By Deepika Kunwar on 07 May 21

Ans. My sister got 14,700 in JEE Mains and she also wanted to go to NIT but there is a very low chance to get a seat in NITs until the 7th round according to your rank.  The rank cutoff of OBC in the 7th round is as follows: Course Other State Home State B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering 5976-6628 69745-69745 B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering 8657-9694 79499-79499 B.Tech Electrical Engineering 8915-10084 - B.Tech Mechanical Engineering 10102-10796 - B.Tech Civil Engineering 11005-11154 172672-172672 However, you might have a chance in spot counseling. In Spot counseling, students with higher rank are allotted seats in some branches which have seats left. This year also there will be spot round then you will definitely get a seat in NIT in some of the following branches: Course NIT Branch Master of Science (M.Sc) NIT Surat Biotech engineering, Industrial and production engineering, Textile engineering NIT Jalandhar Metallurgical Engineering, Biotech, M. Sc NIT Silchar, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Agartala, NIT Durgapur, NIT Patna. The chances of getting a core branch course in any NIT is very unlikely. All this data is based on last year's ranks and admissions (2020). There may be variations this year.Read more

Ques. How much should I score in the JEE Mains to get into the CSE branch in NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Deepika Kunwar on 03 May 21

Ans. In 2019, the responsibility of conducting JEE Main was given to NTA. NTA introduced a percentile system; the frequency of the JEE Main was also increased to twice a year. After the implementation of the NTA system, the cutoff for colleges decreased drastically. The cutoff for NIT Trichy differs based on different factors, i.e. caste, state, etc.  The recent cutoff rank for CSE at NIT Trichy is as follows. Category Cutoff General  OS 280-1373 HS 2060-5325 OBC OS 209-357 HS 1184-2165 SC OS 36-138 HS 298-1300 ST OS 25-53 HS 2275-4708 EWS OS 126-165 HS 938-2058 GeneralPwD OS 55-55 HS 407-407 OBCPwD OS 26-26 HS - SCPwD OS 19-19 HS - Hope this gives you an idea about the cutoff required to secure a seat at CSE NIT Trichy. Read more

Ques. What exam must one clear and with what cutoff to get into IIIT Hyderabad?

● Top Answer By suyashi choubey on 19 Mar 21

Ans. There are different examinations to get admission at IIIT Hyderabad. The mode of admission at the institute is as follows.  JEE Main: Ensure that you score 270+ in the JEE Main to get a seat in a course of your interest. Through this mode, you can even take admission for all branches except CLD, CHD. Test and Interview: If you want to get a seat in the CLD or CHD course can definitely go for this mode of admission.  In this mode, you will experience at first a test and after that, all who clear the test will be called for a Personal Interview.  However, there is no definite cutoff for the test, but you need to give your personal best to qualify for the interview. NTSE, KVPY: First, you have to clear a test. Those who qualify for the test are called for a Personal Interview.  From there, candidates are selected for admission. However, this mode of admission is for the CND course only. DASA mode: This mode is especially meant for the students who have studied 11th and 12th(or equivalent) outside India and are valid foreign passport holders. Generally, all branches accept admission through this mode.  A valid SAT II score of above 2000 is a must-needed criterion. SAT I score is taken into consideration in case of ties. Olympiad mode: This mode is only applicable for students who have been selected for training in Science and Linguistics to represent India in International Olympiads.  In this mode, students are chosen through a Personal Interview. Admissions are granted for CSD, ECD, CND, BSD, and CLD branches. Lateral Entry:  In order to get a seat through this mode of admission, there is a test and a personal interview round. Generally, children are admitted to the second year in IIIT-H through lateral entry. As what other colleges teach in 2 years, IIIT-H teaches in the first year itself. This mode of admission is meant for students who have completed their first two years of engineering in either Computer Science or Electronics branch from any other college. Students are admitted to the CSD branch if they were in the Computer Science branch in their college or to ECD if they were in the Electronics branch.Read more

Ques. Which one is better, dropping a year for the BITSAT and JEE, or joining universities such as LPU or Amity?

● Top Answer By Rupesh Biswas on 12 Feb 21

Ans. Every candidate has their own perspectives and reasons for dropping a year or opting for a degree in any institute. It entirely depends upon your thoughts and decisions, and what you actually want from your career. The points mentioned below can be considered as a set of guidelines that would help to choose the right path. There are several choices which you can make in case of admission. You can prefer a good renowned government college and take any available stream in it, or a good private college (BITS, Thapar, etc) and choose your favorite stream. Considering the fact that you are comfortable with the high fees of the private institutes. Having an educational gap (drop) of one year is not a bad thing for a future career. Most candidates get to learn a lot of things from the self-available time, even some have genuine reasons for the drop. So, if you are extremely passionate about a stream, it is absolutely all-right to drop for a year. Check for the 50% quota for insiders in your home state NIT. If present, it will increase the chances of getting some stream in it. Usually, it is considered that the stream matters much less. What matters is the college name tag. There are several other institutes like Punjab University, UIET, etc which provide good infrastructure and opportunities. JAC is a committee for counseling in some good institutes in Chandigarh. These are some of the basics tips that would help you in the decision-making process.Read more
