Are you eligible to fill JEE Main Application Form?

It is imperative to check the eligibility criteria before starting JEE Main Registration since your candidature will be cancelled if, at any stage, you’re found ineligible,

  1. Age Limit 

  • For General Category – On or after October 1, 1993 
  • For  SC/ST, PwD category- a relaxation of 5 years
  1. No. of Attempts

  • Medical aspirants can avail at JEE Main is limited to three attempts.
  1. Educational Qualification

  • At least five subjects in Class 12th / Qualifying Examination (QE)
  • Candidates with only four subjects are not permitted to write JEE Main 2018.
  1. Year of Appearance in QE

  • Candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent QE in 2016 or 2017
  • Those appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent QE in 2018 are eligible

How to fill JEE Main 2018 Application Form?

Candidates must keep the following documents ready before they start JEE Main Registration.

    Documents Required at the time of Registration

    Photograph in JPEG format-4KB to 100KB (size), 3.5cm x 4.5cm (dimensions)

    Signature in JPEG format- 1KB to 30KB (size), 3.5cm x 1.5cm (dimensions)

    Aadhar card number

    Proof of Date of Birth

    Class 10 certificate

    Class 12 marksheet

    Caste Certificate for SC or ST

    Caste Certificate for SC or ST

    Domicile Certificate

    Passport

    Documents Required by Foreign Candidates

    Step-by-Step Guide to fill JEE Main Application Form

    JEE Form 2018 must be filled completely in one-go, partly filled applications will not be accepted. Steps for making JEE Main Application are-

    JEE Main Registration Process

    Step 1: JEE Main Registration:

    • Visit JEE Main Official Website
    • Click on ‘Apply for JEE Main 2018’ tab.
    • Fill the Authentication Form by entering Nationality, State of Eligibility, State where Class 12th School / NIOS study centre is located, Identification Type, Aadhaar Card Number if ID chosen is Aadhaar, Candidate’s Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Security Pin.
    If the details of Aadhaar Card matches the details stored in UID database, candidates can proceed to fill JEE Main Form.

    Filling of Online Application Form

    Medical aspirants appearing for JEE Main 2018 are required to enter the following details:

    Step 2: Uploading Documents:

    • After filling in the online form, candidates are required to scan and upload photograph and signature per the defined guidelines by CBSE. 
    • Application forms with unclear photograph will be rejected. 
    • Keep 6-8 identical photographs in reserve for use at the time of exam, seat allotment and admission. 
    • Candidates applying from reserved category should obtain caste certificates from designated authorities.

    Step 3: Payment of JEE Main 2018 Application Fee

    • JEE Main Registration Fee can be paid via Credit/ Debit Card/ Net Banking/ PayTM/ Cash Cards/ SBI Buddy Wallet.
    • An option to opt for echallan is also available. Visit the nearest Syndicate Bank, Canara Bank or ICICI Bank to make the payment.

    JEE Main 2018 Registration Fee

    • Fee payment by money order, demand draft, IPO etc. will result in application form rejection.
    • January 2, 2018 is the last date to pay the fee.
    • Application fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

    In case the examination fee is paid by credit/debit card, candidates will need to pay an additional processing charge as following:

    • Credit Card: 1.20% of the fee plus the service tax as applicable.
    • Debit Card: 0.75% + taxes for fee up to INR 2000 and 1% + taxes for fee more than INR 2000.
    Booking of Slot and Dates (for CBT Candidates)
    + After paying JEE Main Fee, candidates will be asked to book their slot for computer-based test.
    + Choose the date for Online Exam of Paper 1 and the test center
    + After that, details of Centre Code, Name, Exam Dates, Capacity, Occupied and Remaining slots will be displayed.
    + Confirm the choice of center and date as well as a slot.
    Lastly, take a printout of JEE Main 2018 acknowledgment page.

    Step 4: Download Acknowledgement Page

    • Take a printout of Acknowledgement Page and keep it for reference.
    • Acknowledgement Page is not required to be sent to the JEE (Main) Secretariat.
    Note:Submit only one application form. Multiple applications from one candidate will be rejected. 

    JEE Main Application Form – FAQs

    Ques. I am appearing in class XII and I haven’t received my roll number, what should I enter while filling the online form?

    Ans. It is not mandatory for candidates appearing for Class 12 roll number option is not mandatory. If it is allotted, you may fill it or otherwise leave it empty.

    Ques. My surname in Aadhaar Card is wrongly mentioned what should I do?

    Ans. For this, you will have to file an application at Aadhaar card center and get it corrected. You can enter the correct surname.

    Ques.Can we submit the application form for NEET offline?

    Ans. No. Submission of JEE Main form can be done via online mode only. For any kind of assistance regarding the filling, submission of payment of fee, candidates can contact the concerned authorities.

    Ques. I belong to Assam state and don’t have Aadhaar Card. How can I apply for JEE Main 2018?

    Ans. You can apply using passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid Govt. identity number.

    Ques. How to compress images for uploading the documents?

    Ans. The images which are to be uploaded in the application form should be of a definite file size and dimension. By following the process given below, you can easily convert any image file into the desired dimension:

    1. Select the image file and right click.
    2. Click on “Open With” and select Paint.
    3. The image will open in Paint window.
    4. Click on the “File” menu in the top left-hand corner of the window.
    5. Select “Properties”.
    6. A small box will open where you can specify/change the width and height of the image. For Photograph it will be 35 mm X 45 mm and for Signature, it will be 80 mm X 35 mm.
    7. Click “OK” and save the image.

    Ques. I have forgot my JEE Main Application Number? What should I do?

    Ans. If any candidate forgets the Application Number, they can follow the below steps:

    • Retrieving Application Number: The fields include some validation information like Name, DOB, Fathers name, mothers name.
    • Retrieving Password: Go to the website and select “forgot password”. Choose Security Question & its Answer you opted while filling the application form. Enter the verification code sent via text message to your Registered Mobile No. and submit to retrieve the password.

    Ques. What should I do if the fee payment status is “not OK”?

    Ans. If the fee is paid through e-challan by depositing cash in Syndicate/Canara/ICICI/HDFC bank, the candidate should contact immediately the concerned bank to update their fee status on the website.  OR

    If the fee is paid through credit/debit card and status is not OK, it means the transaction is cancelled and the amount will, automatically, be refunded to concerned credit/debit card within 7 – 10 days. Therefore, such candidates have to pay the fee once again and ensure the OK fee status.

    Ques. I forgot to book test date and slot before paying the fee. What should I do now?

    Ans. In this case, your slot will be decided based on the city of exam. It will be updated according to the available seats in that particular city. 

    Ques. Can I pay my fee through Demand Draft?

    Ans. No, payment of application fee by DD will not be accepted. If paying offline, you will only have to print the online generated e-challan and pay the fee in cash at Syndicate/Canara/ICICI/HDFC bank.

    Ques. When will the form correction window for JEE Main 2018 begin?

    Ans. The JEE Main Form Correction window will open from January 9 to January 22, 2018. There are only few particulars that can be edited in the online form of JEE Main 2018. Know more

    Ques. Where all can I quote the application number of JEE Main?

    Ans. The application number received at the time of JEE Main Registration will be required at the time of downloading JEE Main Admit Card and to check the results as well.

    Ques. What are the reasons for rejection of JEE Application Form?

    Ans. Due to the following any one of the reason, the form might get rejected:

    1. An incomplete application form in any respect without uploading photo and signature
    2. An incomplete application form in respect of without fee payment will be rejected
    3. If face of candidate in the photograph or signature is unclear in the application, it may be rejected.

    Ques. What is the State Code of Eligibility that needs to be entered in JEE Main online form?

    Ans. The State Code of eligibility is the code of the state from where candidates have passed class 12 or equivalent qualifying examination. State of Eligibility is not applicable for candidates belonging to Nepal /Bhutan/Foreign/OCI/PIO.

    Ques. While selecting the medium of examination, I opted for Hindi/Gujarati but now I wish to appear for JEE Main in English. What should I do?

    Ans. The paper of JEE Main 2018 will be bilingual i.e. it will be in Gujarati/English and Hindi/English for students opting Gujarati/Hindi at the time of filling the form. Therefore, aspirants are not required to change the medium of language. The questions can be attempted in any medium during the examination.

    Ques. Is it necessary to put candidate’s name and date in the photograph. Would JEE Main 2018 application form rejected?

    Ans. As per the official gudelines issued by CBSE, it is mandatory to mention name and date on the passport sized photograph.

    Q. I wish to appear for both the papers of JEE Main but I forgot to choose ‘both’ option while form filling. Can I opt for it now?

    Ans. Yes, as soon as the form correction window opens, candidates can add JEE Main Paper 1 or Paper 2. However, a requisite fee has to be paid for the same.

    Hi Senthil, yes, in case you are not able to present OBC NCL Certification then you will be considered in general category.
