JEE Main 2027 Eligibility Criteria
NTA released the JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin in October 2026. All eligibility rules below are sourced from that official bulletin.
JEE Main 2027 Educational Qualification
Candidates must have passed Class 12 from a recognised board. The exam must include Physics and Mathematics among the five subjects. Candidates appearing in Class 12 in 2027 can also apply.
| Particulars | Requirement | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Qualifying Exam | Class 12 or equivalent | Board must be recognised by AIU |
| Number of Subjects | Five subjects minimum | As per the respective board’s scheme |
| Diploma Holders | Not eligible for JEE Main 2027 | Lateral entry is a separate, direct route |
| State Code of Eligibility | Mandatory to declare during registration | Based on state where Class 12 was passed |
JEE Main 2027 Subject Requirements (PCM)
Subject requirements depend on the paper chosen. Physics and Mathematics are compulsory for B.E./B.Tech. B.Arch requires all three of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
| Paper | Programme | Mandatory Subjects in Class 12 |
|---|---|---|
| Paper 1 | B.E./B.Tech | Physics + Mathematics + one of Chemistry / Biology / Biotechnology / Technical Vocational |
| Paper 2A | B.Arch | Physics + Chemistry + Mathematics (all three compulsory) |
| Paper 2B | B.Planning | Mathematics (compulsory only) |
Key Insight: Biology qualifies as the third subject for JEE Main 2027 Paper 1. Students with Physics, Mathematics, and Biology can apply for B.E./B.Tech. For B.Arch, Chemistry is also compulsory with Physics and Mathematics.
JEE Main 2027 Class 12 Qualifying Marks for NIT and IIIT Admission
No minimum Class 12 marks are needed to appear in JEE Main 2027. This marks criterion applies only during JoSAA counselling for NIT, IIIT, and CFTI seats.
| Category | Minimum Aggregate in Class 12 | Alternative Criterion |
|---|---|---|
| General, OBC-NCL, EWS | 75% | Top 20 percentile of respective board |
| SC, ST, PwD | 65% | Top 20 percentile of respective board |
The above figures apply for NIT, IIIT, and CFTI admission through JoSAA. Verify the latest thresholds at jeemain.nta.nic.in before applying.
Key Insight: Scoring below 75% does not block appearance in JEE Main 2027. It only affects NIT and IIIT admission at the JoSAA stage. Top 20 percentile students qualify for NIT seats even below 75%.
JEE Main 2027 Age Limit
JEE Main 2027 has no upper age limit. NTA removed the age restriction starting from 2021. This change applies to all categories equally.
Before 2021, General candidates had a 25-year age cap. SC, ST, and PwD candidates had a 30-year cap. Both restrictions are no longer in effect under current NTA policy.
| Category | JEE Main 2027 Age Limit | Earlier Limit (Before 2021) |
|---|---|---|
| General, OBC-NCL, EWS | No upper age limit | 25 years |
| SC, ST | No upper age limit | 30 years |
| PwD | No upper age limit | 30 years |
Individual colleges may still set their own age requirements for admission. Candidates must check each college’s rules separately. JEE Main eligibility itself places no age restriction on any candidate.
JEE Main 2027 Maximum Attempts and Year of Passing
JEE Main 2027 allows attempts across 3 consecutive years. Two sessions per year give 6 total permitted attempts.
Maximum Attempts in JEE Main 2027
JEE Main 2027 has two sessions: January and April. Candidates can appear in both sessions each year. The 3-year window begins from the year of Class 12 completion.
| Year | Sessions Available | Cumulative Attempts Used |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | Session 1 + Session 2 | 2 of 6 |
| Year 2 | Session 1 + Session 2 | 4 of 6 |
| Year 3 (Final) | Session 1 + Session 2 | 6 of 6 |
NTA uses the best NTA Score from all sessions for the final rank. JoSAA and CSAB also use the best score across all attempts for seat allotment.
JEE Main 2027 Year of Passing Rules
The JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin restricts eligibility to recent Class 12 batches only. Candidates who passed Class 12 in 2024 or earlier are not eligible for JEE Main 2027.
| Class 12 Passing Year | JEE Main 2027 Eligibility | Position in 3-Year Window |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | Eligible | Third and final year |
| 2026 | Eligible | Second year |
| 2027 (appearing) | Eligible | First year |
| 2024 or earlier | NOT eligible | Outside the 3-year window |
Key Insight: Candidates who passed Class 12 in 2025 are in their final year of JEE Main eligibility. JEE Main 2027 is the last permitted year under current NTA rules. They must not skip either session in 2027.

Ans. The aggregate is calculated on the best five subjects from the qualifying exam. These include one language, Physics, Mathematics, and two additional subjects. The exact calculation follows the respective board’s own rules.
Ques. How does JEE Main 2027 eligibility differ from JEE Advanced 2027?
Ans. JEE Advanced 2027 has stricter rules. Candidates must rank in the top 2,50,000 in JEE Main 2027 to qualify. JEE Advanced allows only 2 attempts in 2 consecutive years. For JEE Advanced 2027, Class 12 must be from 2026 or 2027. JEE Main allows 2025, 2026, or 2027.
