JEE Main 2027 eligibility requires students to have passed Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, and there is no age limit for the exam.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts JEE Main twice a year for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other government-funded technical institutes (GFTIs). Before you fill the application form, you must verify all JEE Main 2027 eligibility conditions — including your year of passing, subject combination, number of remaining attempts, and the minimum marks needed for seat allotment through JoSAA counselling.

  • Students who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or are appearing in 2027, are eligible.
  • No age limit applies for JEE Main 2027.
  • You can attempt JEE Main for a maximum of 3 consecutive years — up to 6 attempts in total (2 sessions per year).
  • Compulsory subjects in Class 12: Physics and Mathematics, plus any one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or Technical Vocational Subject.
  • For admission to NITs/IIITs/GFTIs: minimum 75% marks in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST/PwD students).

JEE Main 2027 Academic Qualification

You must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent qualifying examination (10+2 pattern) from a recognized central or state board. Students currently appearing in Class 12 in 2027 are also eligible to apply.

Criteria Details
Qualifying Exam Class 12 or equivalent (10+2 pattern) from a recognized board
Year of Passing (Passed) 2025 or 2026
Year of Passing (Appearing) 2027
Recognized Boards CBSE, all state boards, ISC, and equivalent recognized examinations
Compulsory Subjects Physics and Mathematics
Third Qualifying Subject Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or Technical Vocational Subject

Students who passed Class 12 in 2024 or earlier are not eligible for JEE Main 2027. The eligibility window is limited to the two years immediately before the exam year and the current appearing year.

JEE Main 2027 Age Limit

There is no age limit for JEE Main 2027. NTA removed the upper age restriction, meaning students of any age can apply as long as they satisfy the academic qualification and year-of-passing conditions.

Note that for admission to IITs through JEE Advanced, a separate age limit of 25 years (30 years for SC/ST/PwD students) applies. This restriction is specific to JEE Advanced and has no bearing on JEE Main eligibility.

JEE Main 2027 Number of Attempts

You can attempt JEE Main for a maximum of 3 consecutive years starting from the year you first passed (or appear in) Class 12. Since JEE Main is held in two sessions each year, this translates to a total of 6 attempts across the eligibility window.

Year of Class 12 Passing / Appearing Eligible JEE Main Years Remaining Attempts in 2027
2025 (passed) 2025, 2026, 2027 Up to 2 (Session 1 and Session 2 of 2027)
2026 (passed) 2026, 2027, 2028 Up to 2 (Session 1 and Session 2 of 2027)
2027 (appearing) 2027, 2028, 2029 Up to 2 (Session 1 and Session 2 of 2027)
2024 or earlier (passed) Not eligible for 2027 0

Each session of JEE Main counts as one attempt. If you appear in both Session 1 and Session 2 of 2027, the best of the two scores will be used for rank calculation.

JEE Main 2027 Subject Requirements (Paper-wise)

The subjects you studied in Class 12 determine which JEE Main papers you can appear in. There are three papers under JEE Main 2027 — Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech, Paper 2A for B.Arch, and Paper 2B for B.Planning.

Paper Programme Required Subjects in Class 12
Paper 1 B.E. / B.Tech Physics and Mathematics as compulsory; any one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or Technical Vocational Subject as the third subject
Paper 2A B.Arch Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (minimum 5 subjects in Class 12)
Paper 2B B.Planning Mathematics (minimum 5 subjects in Class 12)

Students with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) who have not studied Mathematics in Class 12 are not eligible for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) or Paper 2A (B.Arch). They may check whether Mathematics was offered as an additional subject to confirm eligibility.

JEE Main 2027 Marks Requirement for NIT/IIIT/GFTI Admission

There is no minimum percentage in Class 12 to appear in JEE Main 2027. However, for seat allotment at NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs through JoSAA counselling, you must meet the qualifying marks condition set by the Ministry of Education:

Category Minimum Marks in Class 12
General / OBC-NCL / EWS 75% aggregate in Class 12, OR top 20 percentile in their respective board
SC / ST / PwD 65% aggregate in Class 12, OR top 20 percentile in their respective board

Students who qualify in JEE Main 2027 but do not meet the 75%/65% criterion can still receive a rank. However, they will not be eligible for seat allotment at NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs during JoSAA counselling unless the minimum marks condition is satisfied.

JEE Main 2027 Nationality and State Eligibility

JEE Main 2027 is open to a wide range of applicants. The nationality criteria are as follows:

  • Indian nationals from any state or union territory can apply for all central institutes (NITs, IIITs, GFTIs).
  • NRIs, PIOs, OCIs, and foreign nationals can apply under the designated NRI/Foreign Nationals category.
  • For state government institutes that participate in JoSAA, home state quota seats may carry additional domicile or state board conditions. You must check the respective state’s admission rules separately.

Persons with Disabilities (PwD) with 40% or more disability are eligible for horizontal reservation and relaxed eligibility norms (65% in Class 12 instead of 75%).
