What is NEET 2027?

NEET UG 2027 stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) 2027. It is the only entrance exam in India for admission to medical and dental undergraduate programmes. NTA conducts NEET UG every year on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). Before NEET was introduced in 2013, different states and colleges had their own separate entrance exams. NEET unified all of them into a single national test.

What Happened in NEET 2026?

NEET 2027 Preparation Tips

If you are starting preparation for NEET 2027 right now (October 2026), you have about 6–7 months until the exam. That is enough time to cover the syllabus and score well if you are consistent. Here is what works.

1. Start with NCERT — Biology First

Biology contributes 360 marks out of 720 in NEET. NCERT Biology (Class 11 and 12) covers around 80–85% of what appears in the exam. Read every line of NCERT Biology, including the diagrams and examples. Do not skip any chapter — even smaller chapters like Microbes in Human Welfare can have 2–3 questions.

2. Build Concepts in Physics Before Shortcuts

Physics in NEET is concept-based. If you try to memorise formulas without understanding the logic, you will struggle with application-type questions. Focus on the 5–6 most important chapters — Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Optics, Modern Physics, and Electrostatics — as they contribute the most questions every year.

3. Master Organic Chemistry

Chemistry is the most balanceable section. Inorganic and Physical Chemistry are NCERT-heavy. Organic Chemistry requires both NCERT knowledge and reaction mechanisms. Candidates who do well in Organic Chemistry usually gain an edge in the Chemistry section.

4. Solve Previous Year NEET Papers

6. Manage Negative Marking

NEET deducts 1 mark for each wrong answer. Many students lose 20–40 marks through unnecessary guessing. If you are 60–70% sure about an answer, it is usually safer to attempt it. If you are less sure, skip it. Do not mark answers randomly.

7. Revise Consistently

Biology especially needs daily revision. Make short notes as you study each chapter. In the last 2 months before the exam, shift entirely to revision and mock tests. Do not start new topics in the last 4 weeks.

8. Time Management on Exam Day

You have 200 minutes for 180 questions — that is about 66 seconds per question. Start with Biology, then Chemistry, then Physics (or whatever order you are most comfortable with). Leave difficult questions for the end. Do not spend more than 2 minutes on any single question in the first pass.
