JEE Main 2018 Paper 2 for B. Arch/B. Plan

JEE Main comprises 2 papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is meant for B. Tech aspirants while candidates applying for B. Arch course should attempt Paper 2 of JEE Main. Aptitude Test in Architecture (JEE Main Paper 2) is scheduled for April 8, 2018. Paper 2 includes three sections- Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing. 

  • 82 questions are asked in Paper 2 of JEE Main with Mathematics (30 MCQs) and Aptitude (50 MCQs) having 80 questions, while 2 questions are based on drawing section.
  • 4 marks each are awarded for first two sections. Drawing section has 2 questions of total 70 marks.

JEE Main Paper 2 is only conducted in Pen and Paper mode. Candidates applying for JEE Main Paper 1 can also apply for JEE Main Paper 2 and vice versa but the Application fee is different for appearing in both or single exam. Check Here JEE Main Sample Papers 

 

JEE Main Paper 2 aims at measuring the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability, that have been acquired over a long period of time.

JEE Main Application Form for Paper 2

  • JEE Main Paper 2 Registration has to be done along with JEE Main Registration.
  • For the academic session 2018-19 Registration process will be completed on January 2, 2018.
  • JEE Main Application Form will be available in online mode only on the CBSE portal.
  • They are required to fill all necessary information such as paper details, exam centers, personal information, qualification details, etc. during online registration.
  • Last year, CBSE directed that Aadhar number is mandatory to fill in JEE Main Application Form.
  • Note that there is no separate process to apply for JEE Main Paper 2.

JEE Main Paper 2 Eligibility

The basic eligibility criteria for appearing in JEE Main is to pass class 12 or equivalent exam with 45%marks in each of the subject (40% in case of reserved categories). Other mandatory requirements are mentioned below: -

Academic Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed class 12 in a minimum of 5 subjects.
  • Applicants must have compulsorily studied a language, Physics and Mathematics.
  • Optional subjects studied by the candidates are Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational.
  • The fifth subject can be any subject.
  • A minimum of 45 % in aggregate (40 % for SC/ST candidates) is required in qualifying exam.

Age Limit: Candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 1993 (October 1, 1988 for SC/ST candidates) to be eligible for JEE Main Paper 2.


JEE Main Paper 2 Exam Pattern

JEE Main Paper 2 for B. Arch is a 3-hour examination that includes three sections – Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing/Sketching Test. The aptitude test must be attempted in English only. Students must carry their own geometry box set, pencils, erasers, crayons and color pencils.

Section 1: Consist of Aptitude Test with 50 Objective Questions for 200 marks.  Questions are based on general awareness, reasoning ability, analytical skills.

Note: Drawing Questions have to be attempted on the separate drawing sheet placed with the answer sheet.


JEE Main Paper 2 Result and Selection Procedure

JEE Main Paper 2 Result will be declared separately. Once the result is declared, a cut off list is prepared and those who qualify in JEE Main Paper 2 Cut Off shall proceed to the admission process.

CBSE scrapped the inclusion of class 12 weightage while preparing merit list, however, it is mandatory to score at least 75% marks in the qualifying exams to get through with admission process. The admission process will be completed once registration for JoSAA Counselling is done.

JEE Main Paper 2 Evaluation in case of Tie

In case of a tie, i.e. when two or more candidates obtain equal marks (by giving 60% weightage to performance in JEE (Main) and 40% weightage to normalized marks in Class 12th or equivalent qualifying examination), inter-se merit of such candidates shall be decided in the following order:

  1. Rank list for admission to B. Arch/B. Planning (in institutions other than IITs)
  2. Resolution by marks obtained in Aptitude Test in Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.) in JEE (Main) – 2018. Candidate obtaining higher marks will be given better rank.
  3. Resolution by marks obtained in Drawing Test in Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.) in JEE (Main) – 2018. Candidate obtaining higher marks will be given better rank.
  4. Resolution by total normalized qualifying exam marks. Candidates obtaining higher normalized marks will be given better rank.
  5. Resolution by finding the ratio of positive marks and negative marks. Candidate having higher absolute value of the ratio will be given better rank.
  6. If the resolution is not possible after this criterion, candidates will be given the same rank.

JEE Main 2018 Paper 2 Aptitude Syllabus

Syllabus for JEE Main Paper 2 can be divided into three major parts:

  • Three dimensional – perception: Understanding and appreciation of scale and proportion of objects, building forms and elements.
  • Color texture, harmony and contrast.
  • Design and drawing of geometrical or abstract shapes and patterns in pencil.
  • Transformation of forms both 2 D and 3 D union, subtraction, rotation, development of surfaces and volumes, Generation of Plan, elevations and 3 D views of objects.
  • Creating two dimensional and three-dimensional compositions using given shapes and forms.
  • Sketching of scenes and activities from memory, landscape.

Note: Candidates must bring their own geometry box set, pencils, erasers and color pencils or crayons.
