• The degree must be from a university or institution recognised by the UGC or an equivalent statutory body.
• All disciplines are covered — BSc (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Life Sciences, etc.), BCom, and BA programs qualify.
• No specific subject restriction applies at the undergraduate level — however, the GATE paper you choose should be aligned with your academic background.
• Students who have already completed a 3-year bachelor’s degree are eligible regardless of the year they graduated.

Educational Qualification Details

Year of Qualifying Degree

• Final-year students: If you are in the last year of any qualifying degree, you can apply. A college enrollment certificate confirming your final-year status is required at the time of application.
• Pre-final year (4-year programs): Students in the 3rd year of a 4-year BE/BTech, or the 4th year of a 5-year integrated program, are eligible under GATE’s pre-final year provision.
• Graduates (any passing year): If you have already completed your qualifying degree, you are eligible regardless of your graduation year. No cutoff year is specified.
