    JEE Main is a national level entrance exam organized by NTA twice in a year (January and April). This year, JEE Main 2020 for January session was conducted from January 6 – 9, 2020, result for which have been declared by NTA. JEE Main April session is scheduled for April 5,7,8,9,11, 2020, candidates can apply online at jeemain.nta.nic.in

    • Candidates can predict their rank for JEE Main January session with the help of JEE Main rank predictor
    • Class 12 marks are not considered for determining the ranks. Ranks are allocated as per the normalized scores in JEE Main
    • JEE Main Cut off is different for every IIT, NIT and other participating institutes.
    • No scorecard/rank card will be sent to the candidates. It has to be downloaded. Check JEE Main Counselling  
    • Based on the Mains Rank List, candidates are selected for the admission to various B.E./B.Tech programs which are offered by 31 NITs, 20 IITs and 18 GFTIs.
    • Candidates must secure at least 75% marks in or be in top 20 percentile in the class 12th exam conducted by the respective board to get admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs.

    Preparation Procedure of JEE Main 2020 Rank List

    NTA prepares a total of eight JEE Mains Rank List each, for Paper 1 and Paper 2 based on the performance of candidates in the respective exams. JEE Main rank card is prepared category wise.

    Seat Matrix- JEE Main Seat Allocation

    JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) is responsible for conducting the counseling and seat allocation process for the candidates who have qualified JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

    A total of 94 institutes (23 IITs, 31 NITs, 20 IIITs and 20 GFTIs) participate in JoSAA Counselling. The following table represents the seat matrix (institute wise and category wise) based on JoSAA (2019) data:

    JEE Main Result Marks Vs Rank

    NTA will release JEE Main 2020 January session result on January 31, 2020 at jeemain.nta.nic.in. The total marks obtained in JEE Main is termed as scores. The scores are calculated by multiplying the total number of correct answers by 4 and subtracting the total number of incorrect answers.

    JEE Main Score = 4 marks x number of correct answers - number of wrong answers x 1

    This JEE Main score is considered for calculating the ranks. It two or more than two candidates obtain equal marks then, tie break criteria are used. On the basis of All India Ranks (AIR), candidates are called for JEE Main Counselling

    JEE Main Cut off trend analysis gives a fair idea to the candidates about the previous years’ cut offs. The fluctuations in JEE Main cut offs can be because of factors like the difficulty level of the paper, number of exam takers et cetera. While comparing the cutoff marks of this year and last year, here are some of the stats:

    • JEE Main 2019 Cut off for General Category has increased from 74 to 89.
    • JEE Main 2019 Cut off for OBC Category has increased from 45 to 74.
    • JEE Main 2019 Cut off for SC Category has increased from 29 to 54.
    • JEE Main 2019 Cut off for ST Category has increased from 24 to 44.
