GATE Scorecard: How to Download GATE 2021 Scorecard, Validity and Use of Scorecard

    IIT Bombay will release GATE 2021 Scorecard soon after the declaration of result in the month of March 2021. GATE Scorecard is one of the important documents that contain the information about the marks secured by the candidate, his cut off marks, GATE score, and the rank of the candidate. Candidates must download and retain their scorecards.

    • The scorecard is issued to GATE qualified candidates i.e. only those candidates who have scored the minimum qualifying marks will be able to download the scorecard. 
    • The validity of GATE scorecard is 3 years from the date of announcement of result. Check GATE Result
    • If a candidate is not able to download the scorecard within a given interval of time then after that to download the same he has to make a payment of INR 500.

    After downloading GATE 2021 Scorecard candidates should check all the details mentioned in their scorecard. If there is any discrepancy in you name, gender or registration number then you must report it to the authorities. The following details will be mentored in your scorecard.

    Students will be able to download their scorecards 2 to 3 days after the announcement of GATE 2021 Result. The scorecard will be available in an online mode only. Candidates who will score the minimum qualifying marks can download their scorecard whereas other candidates will not be able to download the same. 

    The steps to download GATE 2021 scorecard is mentioned below.

    Step 1: Visit GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal.

    Step 2: Login using GATE 2021 Enrollment ID/ Email ID/ Registration ID and Password.

    Step 3: GATE scorecard will be displayed on the screen.

    Step 4: Click on the download option and take a print of the scorecard.

    The calculation method of GATE score will be mentioned in your scorecard along with all the details. 

    • GATE score calculation of Normalized Marks for Multi-session Papers is different from the Calculation of GATE Score for Single Session Papers. 
    • For multi-session subjects or papers, raw marks obtained by the candidates in different sessions are converted to Normalized marks for a particular subject.
    • The same process is repeated for the calculation of Normalized marks for all the multisession papers. 
    • In the end, the raw marks for single session papers or normalized marks for multi-session papers are used for computing the GATE Score.
    • For multi-session papers, the scores are normalized before calculating the actual score because in all the sessions the difficulty level of questions could be different hence maintaining the equality in the score or avoiding the chances of giving any type of benefits to candidates normalization mention is used. 

    Normalized Score calculation in Multi-session Papers

    The formula to calculate the normalized score is:


    • Mij – actual marks obtained by jth candidate in the ith session
    • Mgt – is the average marks of the top 0.1% of the candidates considering all sessions. 
    • Mgq – is the sum of mean and standard deviation marks of the candidates in the paper considering all session. 
    • Mti  – is the average marks of the top 0.1% of the candidates in the ith session.
    • Miq – is the sum of the means marks and standard deviation of the ith session.

    Score calculation in Single-session Papers

    The formulas to calculate scores in Single-session Papers is: 

    • Here the actual marks obtained in the engineering exam will only be used in determining GATE score. 
    • M: marks obtained in GATE
    • Mq: Qualifying marks for general category candidate in GATE paper
    • Mt: Mean of marks of top 0.1% or top 10 (whichever is larger) of candidates who appeared for GATE (in case of multi-session papers including all sessions)
    • Sq: 350, is the score assigned to Mq
    • St: 900, is the score assigned to Mt

    GATE 2021 scorecard can be used for various purposes. Candidates can check all the options that they can have after qualifying GATE 2021 below:

    1. Admission in IITs

    Candidates can apply for M.Tech admission in various courses offered at various IITs. With your score you can apply for admission in all the IITs and depending on the cut off decided by each IIT you will be get selected. For admission in IITs you have to register at COAP portal and also at the website of respective IITs where you wish to take admission. Check GATE COAP Counselling 

    2. M.Tech at NITs

    Other than IITs, you can also take admission in NITs. For this, you need to apply at the CCMT portal where a  total of 49 colleges participate in the counselling process.     3. GATE PSU Recruitment

    PSU recruitment based on GATE scores is one of the best options considered by most of the candidates. Some of the PSUs like NTPC, DRDO, IOCL, BARC, etc. shortlist candidates for the recruitment process based on their GATE score. However, some of the PSUs only consider the current year GATE Scorecard valid for the recruitment process that is if you are planning to appear for GATE 2021 and wish to be placed in PSUs then you have to apply in the same year.     4. Apply in Foreign University

    Foreign Universities like the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nan Yang Technological University Singapore (NTU), Technical University of Munich, RWTH Aachen University, are some of the universities that accept GATE scores for admissions. Other than the valid GATE scorecard these universities could also have there own eligibility criteria that a candidate should fulfill.
