IIT Bombay Admission Procedure & GATE Cutoff

IIT Bombay M.Tech Admission Through GATE: The institute considers GATE scores for admission into various streams of M.Tech. program. Candidates obtaining marks above can apply for the seat allotment process. The online application form is available at the official website of IIT Bombay till April 11, 2019 (tentative). Direct admission in the institute is given to candidates who are IIT graduates based on COAP schedule (will be declared on round 3).

All Qualified GATE Candidates, who have submitted the application for M.Tech. admission should also register at Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) for making the decision against admission offers. Verification of documents/certificates will be held on in the concerned academic units in the last week of July 2019.

About GATE 2019:
This year, GATE 2019 is scheduled for February 2, 3, 9 and 10, 2019 in computer-based mode. Candidates who wish to apply can submit their applications from September 1 to October 1, 2018 through online mode.

IIT Bombay M. Tech Eligibility Criteria 2019

  • Candidates with 60% (55% for SC/ST) marks in B.E./B.Tech./ B.Sc. (Engineering)/ M.Sc./M.C.A./MBBS/M.Pharm./B.Pharm.(4 years)/ BDS (4 years) or in any associate membership exam conducted by recognized bodies and recognized as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. degree, are eligible to apply.
  • Those with minimum CGPA of 6.0 on the scale of 0-10 (5.5 for SC/ST) are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates having an IIT B.Tech. degree with CGPA OF 8.0 and above are exempted from GATE score requirements.
  • They will be considered for TA/RA positions through written test and/or interview.

Assistantship Offered: If someone joins the M.Tech. the program under TA (Teaching Assistantship) category, he is considered for the assistantship of INR 8000 per month at present for two years, which is likely to be revised from this year.


IIT Bombay Admission Process through GATE

Those candidates who qualify the selection criteria of IIT Bombay can proceed for the application process. The Application Fee is INR 300 (INR 150 for PD/SC/ST Category). Online applications will be scrutinized, relevant documents checked/verified for their authenticity.

Candidates may seek admission to more than one department. They should submit only 1 application form.

Payment Mode:  The candidates can deposit the requisite application fee by using net banking or debit/credit card facilities.

After submitting the Application, all admission related enquiries may be made to the PG Admission Office, IIT Bombay only. The subject of the E-mail should be: ‘M.Tech Admission Query’. Text matter of the E-mail should consist:

(i) Application Number

(ii) Name of the applicant

(iii) Details of query

Department specific queries should be addressed to the respective departments.

  1. Scanned version of  photograph 
  2. Scanned version of signature
  3. Marksheet of the last semester/ Consolidated marksheet of the qualifying degree.
  4. Caste Certificate (OBC­NC/SC/ST), if applicable. An affidavit for having applied in case the certificate is not yet received. 
  5. PwD Certificate, if applicable
  6. Statement of Purpose, if applicable

Note: Exam pending/result awaited candidates have to upload their latest/previous semester mark sheet.


IIT Bombay M.Tech Selection Procedure

  • Selection procedure includes shortlisting students on the basis of GATE Score.
  • Then it is followed by group discussion and/or interview.
  • Those with exceptional scores may be considered for direct admissions in the institute.
