IIT Bombay Admission Procedure and GATE Cutoff 2020

IIT Bombay M.Tech Admission through GATE 2020: The institute considers GATE 2020 scores for admission into various streams of M.Tech. program. Applicants who will successfully qualify GATE can apply for the seat allotment process. GATE 2020 is scheduled for on February 1, 2, 8 and 9, 2020 through online mode. 

  • GATE Result 2020 will be announced on March 16, 2020 on the official website of GOAPS.    
  • The online application form will be available at IIT Bombay website till April 1 (tentative). Check GATE Score Calculation
  • Direct admission in the institute is given to candidates who are IIT graduates based on COAP schedule (will be declared on round 3). 
  • Candidates who have cleared GATE 2020 should also register at Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) for making the decision against admission offers.
  • Documents verification will be held on in the concerned academic units in the last week of July 2020. Check GATE Counselling

IIT Bombay M. Tech Eligibility Criteria 2020

  • Candidates with 60% (55% for SC/ST) marks in B.E./B.Tech./ B.Sc. (Engineering)/ M.Sc./M.C.A./MBBS/M.Pharm./B.Pharm.(4 years)/ BDS (4 years) or in any associate membership exam conducted by recognized bodies and recognized as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. degree, are eligible to apply.
  • Those with minimum CGPA of 6.0 on the scale of 0-10 (5.5 for SC/ST) are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates having an IIT B.Tech. degree with CGPA OF 8.0 and above are exempted from GATE score requirements.
  • They will be considered for TA/RA positions through written test and/or interview.

Assistantship Offered: If someone joins the M.Tech. the program under TA (Teaching Assistantship) category, he is considered for the assistantship of INR 8000 per month at present for two years, which is likely to be revised from this year.

IIT Bombay Admission Process through GATE 2020

Those candidates who qualify the selection criteria of IIT Bombay can proceed for the application process. The Application Fee is INR 300 (INR 150 for PD/SC/ST Category). Online applications will be scrutinized, relevant documents checked/verified for their authenticity.

Candidates may seek admission to more than one department. They should submit only 1 application form.

Payment Mode:  The candidates can deposit the requisite application fee by using net banking or debit/credit card facilities.

After submitting the Application, all admission related inquiries may be made to the PG Admission Office, IIT Bombay only. The subject of the E-mail should be: ‘M.Tech Admission Query’. Text matter of the E-mail should consist:

(i) Application Number

(ii) Name of the applicant

(iii) Details of query

Department-specific queries should be addressed to the respective departments.

Documents Required

  1. Scanned version of  photograph 
  2. Scanned version of signature
  3. Marksheet of the last semester/ Consolidated marksheet of the qualifying degree.
  4. Caste Certificate (OBC­NC/SC/ST), if applicable. An affidavit for having applied in case the certificate is not yet received. 
  5. PwD Certificate, if applicable
  6. Statement of Purpose, if applicable

Note: Exam pending/result awaited candidates have to upload their latest/previous semester mark sheet.


IIT Bombay M.Tech Selection Procedure

  • Selection procedure includes shortlisting students on the basis of GATE Score.
  • Then it is followed by group discussion and/or interview.
  • Those with exceptional scores may be considered for direct admissions in the institute.

I had a CGPA of 7.45 is it good enough to get admissions into IITS also I had 5 backlogs which I cleared?

My cgpa is 5.8 sc category student..b tech electrical...but I doesn't satisfy 55 % criteria...they have mention abt cgpa also ...what they consider cgpa or %help me out

Hi Jay, in such case, you will have to calculate the percentage following the steps as prescribed by the authorities. And there is relaxation of 5% in percentage criteria for students belonging to reserved categories.
