Muvvala Venkata Siva Sairam secured an AIR 13 (EC) in GATE 2019. He obtained a score of 956, with his marks being 79.33 out of 100. His achievement will prove to be a source of motivation for GATE 2020 applicants. Let’s have a look at the highlights of his success story:

Was this his first attempt at GATE?

This was his second attempt at GATE, first being in 2018.

What made him go for GATE 2019?

He shares that after his graduation from NIT Warangal, he worked at Goldman Sachs Bangalore for a year. He decided to quit the software industry and intended to join ISRO/DRDO. He prepared for GATE 2018 along with his job and secured an AIR-575, which wasn’t good enough to land him in a PSU. Therefore he retook GATE in 2019, this time with complete dedication.

Coaching Vs Self study, what helped him more?

He believes that a good rank in GATE can be secured if one plans well and studies. Although he adds that if one is preparing for GATE well after his/her graduation, then coaching can be a good choice. Concise notes and syllabus provided by the coaching centers is helpful.

What was his preparation strategy for the exam?

Muvvala Venkata’s stepwise preparation strategy includes picking different subjects and completing the study of their class notes and other study materials, solving previous years’ papers subject wise, revision of all the subjects and finally attempting full length tests. Check GATE Preparation Tips and Tricks

Any advice to the future GATE aspirants?

He advises the future aspirants to not waste time gathering too much information on a particular topic. Rely on your class notes and when you come across potentially useful new information, add it to your notes.

What are his suggestions for the appropriate study material to prepare from?

He shares that he relied totally on his class notes and use to note down new problems whenever he came across them. He further adds that he didn’t take any help from material present on different websites online. Although, online test series proved to be helpful for him.
