GATE AE: Aerospace Engineering Preparation Tips

Last Updated - September 06, 2018

This year IIT Madras will conduct GATE 2019 in online (computer-based) mode on February 2, 3, 9 and 10, 2019 for 24 papers. GATE Paper for Aerospace Engineering will cover 70% of the Aerospace subject, 15% from General Aptitude, and 15% from Engineering Mathematics. The questions will be a mix of Multiple choice and Numerical Answer Type.

Candidates are tested on their knowledge from the graduation level, how well they can implement their knowledge in the examination. Most of the questions asked in GATE exam are tricky and a combination of 2-3 topics. Candidates are also tested in the field of Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude.

GATE AE: Aerospace Engineering Preparation Tips

Preparing for GATE is not like preparing for other competitive exams. This national level examination is subject focused paper therefore, candidates should keep in mind that they have to work hard and get hold of each topic if they want to crack GATE.

Aerospace Engineering is really a heavy domain as it deals with both Aeronautics as well as Astronautical engineering. To help candidates do better in their preparation and stay focused, here are a few smart tips.

  • Candidates should be fully aware of the syllabus, some particular topics which are not in the undergraduate syllabus are also present in the syllabus like the vibration of beams.
  • Select the best reference books that cover all the basic topics of the core. Do not try to study each topic from different books. Check GATE Recommended Books
  • Stick to one or two books and prepare it well.
  • In Aerospace engineering, the questions are mainly based on the aircraft performance and dynamics.
  • Topics which are lengthy and tough like Structures, Space Dynamics, Flight Mechanism is to be studied first.
  • A study plan should be made to complete all the topics at least 20 days before the exams.
  • For the beginning, you should give 4 to 5 hours specifically to GATE Preparation.
  • Topics like aircraft turn, pull down, pull up, ascend, flight, gliding, etc. are asked in GATE AE Paper.
  • Candidates should take a note and complete topics like the strength of materials, mechanical vibrations and aircraft structures in-depth for covering Aircraft structures. It is a very important topic in GATE.
  • The best source is the past year's question papers. These papers will tell you about the important topics as well as the type of questions asked in the examination. Check GATE Previous Year Questions Papers
  • Candidates should solve as many problems as possible so as to have a good practice for GATE exam.
  • Decide small and effective targets on day to day, and weekly basis. Try to complete the targeted topics in time.
  • Revision is essential, revise the subject or topic as many times as possible until you are perfect on that.
